Was it normal to send Vets from Maryland to a Tennessee >facility? A vet could be sent to any of the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Usually they were sent where there was space and sometimes residents even asked to be transferred from one home to another. The records for the branch in Tennessee are held by the NARA Southeast region (http://www.archives.gov/southeast/public/). Unfortunately only a sampling of the case files still exist. There are microfilmed registers of residents and
3. GRAHAM [1]
Would like to exchange information with anyone interested in a GRAHAM family that lived in Baltimore during the mid and/or late 1800s or the 1900s.
4. RE: [MDGEN] Civil War Vets [1]
What Jean was referring to was a special census of Union Veterans and Widows taken in 1890, at the same time as the regular census. It is all that survived the fire that destroyed the 1890 Census, and it is not nearly complete, even for the veterans and widows. Anyplace that has it, including Ancestry.com, has it with their regular census data. From Ancestry's web site, data only survived from eleven states, with some of them being only one or two counties or townships. So don't get your hopes up. In

Have you checked the 1890 Census of Maryland Civil War Vets and their wives? This part of the census did survive, as I found my Civil War ancestor in it. I don't know about them sending vets to another state but have never heard of it. Jean, Baltimore, MD

10. Civil War Vets [1]
I have an ancestor who served from NY but shortly thereafter moved to Baltimore. I have found no record of his death. However, there is a man by the same time, same age, who served from NY, in the National Soldiers Home in Tennessee in 1920. Was it normal to send Vets from Maryland to a Tennessee facility?

My Great UNcle died in Bowling Green Ky. He was a private for the OHio 111th and was only there from August to December 26 1862 when he died of Measles and exposure. He is buried at Nashville Tenn National Cemetery. I cannot understand why they buried him down there when he was from Whitehouse Ohio in Lucas County. Unless he was sent to a hospital down there but his papers say he died in BG Ky. Nance Holland, Ohio

I believe it may be called the Union List, since it is mainly Union Veterans included in the states that were saved. 18. Burney Collection of Early English Newspapers [1]
http://www.bl.uk/collections/burney.html ProQuest is considering digitizing this collection of early English newspapers (17th, 18th, 19th century, mostly) for access online. I have no ancestors from England that I know about at this point, so I am not able to speak intelligently to them about this collection. If there's anyone out there who would be interested in giving them some feedback, please email me and let me know and I will give you the email address of the person to contact there. I'm l
