Linda,
I have put notes for each...I have some sources. In my research, I try to
list sources, but that is a never ending task. One of my biggest challenges
is that I am not from Maryland and find the geographical area confusing. I
have lived in Va all my life except for the 5 years in Germany several years
ago. That is why I get Prince George's Co, Broad Creek, etc. mixed up.

St. Mary's Marriages has Elizabeth Knott (wid/ Clement Knott) marrying
Edward McWilliams on Feb 03, 1807 according to county court records. I
would like to determine if this Clement had a son born abt 1796 in St.
Mary's.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bill,
As I understand the process, each veteran was entitled to a certain number
of acres. Enlisted men got less. Officers, of course, got more and John
Leigh was entitled to 200 acres as a Lt. If they were deceased, the heirs
could claim. I've seen some as late as the 1840's. It didn't matter what
state they were from.
I had nothing on the 1824 record you cited or information from Adams Co.,
OH. Please send, so I may have a full record on this man. I've wondered
why he served in Virginia

I am very interested in exchanging information about the Clarke family from
Ridge, St. Mary's. We know that my great-grandmother (Annie Davis) and
great great grandmother (Maria Ellen Lee Clarke) were born at Woodlawn (know the
Bed/Breakfast off Wynne Road). We are related to Matthias Clarke as cousins.
We also know that Maria hid a Point Lookout escaped prisoner at Woodlawn in
1863.
I have talked to Virginia Cox who renevated Woodlawn, but she does not have
any history of the house from
You will need to check the date on his capture & where he was first sent.
Point Lookout didn't open as a Federal POW camp until after the Battle of
Gettysburg [July 1863].
So if he was captured at 2nd Manassas [August 1862], he wasn't sent to Point
Lookout. If captured in 1862, he should have been held only until he was
exchanged.
Large POW camps weren't needed in 1862, because both sides had an exchange
system [cartel] in operation. Only after Emancipation [January 1, 1863] and
the enlistment of blacks in

Dear Listers,
I have a Mary Green (b abt 1765) in the 1850 census for Marion Co, Ky. She has a daughter Agatha married (1820) in Washington Co. Ky, to John W. Drury. There was also separately listed a Washington County, Ky. marriage of James Spalding to Sarah Green in 1818.
I assume that Mary and Agatha were mother and daughter since they were both in the same household. Does anyone know the name of Mary's husband and/or if Sarah was Agatha's sister. With a birth date about 1765 I am calculatin

Hi. Given the fact that he named a son, Joseph Raley, I would think
your Michael Raley may have been a son of the Joseph Raley (b. circa
1735) who was, himself, the son of Michael Raley, "Jr.," (d. 1738 in
SMC) and Grace (Greenwell) Clarke. That Joseph Raley, as I understand
it, did move to Kentucky. But, be cautioned, I don't know the Kentucky
Raleys well at all. John Dobricky

I checked in my resources your family, found Jack and Betsy Cole in the 1860
census of St Mary's Co. I looked also in the 1880 census and could not find
a Jack or Betsy, but found another name close. Sometime the census takers
did not get the names absolutely correct. So I thought I would send you the

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
Your stuff has changed a bit.
I have some stuff to change. (Thought for
a moment I could forget about John Mason
Goldsmith, but he crept back in.)
I will just cut Janette (Judith) Gerrard lose from
