Alice,
Scharf's History of Western MD information on Sharpsburg indicates that early records for both the Lutheran Church (Joseph Chapline donated the land for it) and the Reformed Church were either lost or destroyed. The Protestant Episcopal Church now know as St. Paul's was formed in 1818 and the Methodist congregation formed in 1811. The other church mentioned is the Tunker (German Baptist) Church which was on the Antietam Battlefield and a Colored M.E. Church formed after the Civil War. Pages 1208-12

Hi,
I have found Jacob WIDENER 1830 census, age 28, wife 24, 1 son age 2 yr. Living in District 4 in the census. Could you give me more information on just where that is located in Washington Co.,Md. think it is near Hagerstown. He was a brick maker who in 1834 with his family moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio where he continued his profession. The name is spelled WIDENER, WEIDNER, WIDNER and not too common in that area. His wife Mary Ann BEARD was a member of the Methodist church, and had been born near Ha
Thanks to a thorough search of land records I have learned that Ludwick Keedy, nephew of Henry and apparently son of Johannes Joseph owned land as early as 1761 in Frederick County. I have traced the history of his land sales I have followed him from MD to PA, to KY to TN; I have the record of his marriage to Catherine Welty (thanks to Lee) and am totally stumped in my efforts to find the names of any children born prior to 1790. Ludwick eventually died in Bledsoe County TN and a great deal of research has

I was raised only a couple of miles from the Conococheague Creek. It is
not very big and some small boys or girls could throw a stone across it.
I will try to pronounce it phonetically:
con - oh - ka/ko - jig some say it this way - with no stress on any
one syllable.
con - oh - ka/ko - chig others this way - same
In rapid speach it is usually the first way.
It is a native American [Indian] word and probably originally pronounced
somewhat different than we do today.

Have you looked for any church records? Sounds like they were around
Sharpsburg as if I remember right that is where Champline settled. There are
3-4 active churches still in the area. Christening and marriage records for
the children may be available.

Alice,
I do not know what church they were married in. That is one of the
things I am trying to find out. The marriage was listed in a book called
Washington County Marriages An Index: 1779-1860, compiled by Morrow and
Morrow.
Another researcher gave me Rev. Keedy's name and stated it was on page
88, but failed to give me the title of the source.
I contacted the Washington County Historical Society in Hagerstown.
They told me they had a book listing the ministers of Washington County
and might be a
