After searching further, I found two titles for the St. Augustine records:
St. Augustine's Cemetery Augusta, Maine by Berry, Clyde G
Marriages of St. Augustine, Augusta, Me. (1888-1981). Lewiston, Me., Y. Labonte,
1983.
Are these the only two?
Are any other records of this church published, specificially birth, baptismal, etc., for
the time period 1880-1920?
If not, has anyone had experience in obtaining records from this church ? Are they
responsive to requests for information?
Thanks,

Hi all,
I was hoping some kind soul would do a lookup in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery
in Freedom, Maine for me. I'm hoping they have an office where records can be
checked. I believe my gg grandparents are buried there. I know some of the
cemetery records are on line, but I don't think they go throught the "S" yet.

Dear Mary Butman Mason ("Wherever thou art"),
My ggg/grandmother was Sally Butman b. 2 May 1784, Cambridge, MA, m. James

remained. Their daughter Mary Jane Jumper was my gg/grandmother. I have
never been able to find more info on the Butman family. I wonder if there
might be a connection to yours?

I can tell you what worked for me in Penobscot County.
I got the address of the Probate Court from the BangorLibrary, but I expect
that a service like www.switchboard.com would find it also.
I wrote a snail mail letter specifying what I was looking for. In
Penobscot there is an advantage because Ruth Gray has indexed the files for
the period I was interested in. Because I expected a large job (my
grandmother was under guardianship from age 8 to 18, as her parents had
died) I sent a check for $25 -- I thin

Jumper is not a prolific name like some and I don't remember any other Jumper
families in town, so I am emailing to say there was a JUMPER family living in Bath,
Sagadahoc Co, Maine in the 50s. They lived on North Street. Mr. Jumper operated a
hardware store on the same property as his home. I could swear I remeber his name
being James Jumper but not absolutely sure. He purchased the home and hardware store
from the Woodbury Bailey family. Mr. Bailey ran the store for a long time; at le
Does anyone have the book "History of the town of Wayne, Kennebec County, Maine from its settlement to 1898"? I can not locate it at any library or thru the LDS library. Could I talk someone into making me copies of two or three page?
I am working on the Besse/Bessey family. I know they are on pages 17 & 18, but there may be other Besse's on other pages. I will be more than glad to pay for the copies. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Kathy

I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom
So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself,

I made a healthy choice,

I am new to the list and I thought I might post my interest and see if
anyone could possibly help me. Approx. 1927-1930 my great great grandfather

I read on a website that the records of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Augusta, Maine
have been published in a book. Is anyone familiar with this book? What is its exact
title? How far back do the records go in the book and how complete are they?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks, Tina. I had heard of this diary. I didn't realize it was online.
Ann Susann was a first cousin to my gg/grandmother, Mary Ann Jumper. Edward
and Elizabeth (Noyes) Jumper were my gggg/grandparents.
I am very much interested in finding out more about Sally Butman's family.
There doesn't seem to be any information about them circulating about.

Does anyone know what happened to people who couldn't pay their debts in 1800?
The story goes: Joseph Boswell started out pretty well in 1800, as a joiner
and housewright. He married Lydia Getchell, bought and sold property, was a
partner in 7-mile pond mill, loaned money to various people, and was a deputy
Sheriff all in Vassalborough. About 1813 he lost his deputy job and began
losing his property to creditors. If he were bankrupt and not able to pay his
debts what would have been the usual thing to
Francis - thank you for your response to probate records search. I tried
the counties thing and didn't get to where I wanted to go. I had previously
tried a keyword search with "Kennebec and probate" That gave me a lot
of probate records, some of which were Maine but nothingfor Kennebec county.
Am I the only one who is having this problem? Mary Mason
Could someone please do a lookup for me in the Gardiner City Directory
1886-87 for the name ALEXANDER BOARDWAY and tell me what it says about
him. Also, if possible, in the Gardiner City Directories for other
1880s years if possible. I would appreciate this tremendously.
Thanks,
