2. Re: [ML] Astrology [1]
Even nowadays I would never use the word stupid, as it was absolutely forbidden to call anyone stupid in our house. That would probably be worse than a cuss word (though I didn't push the envelope to find out). As long as I live I will never forget when a nun told my first grade sister & her best friend to quit being stupid. It made my day when my mom "marched" herself down to our school & really gave it to that nun. She said "Stupid is dull, and my Nance is anything but dull!". Ooooh baby, Mom was so mad s
3. [ML] THE HOMLESS [1]
We had to go down to San Clemente Friday morning, we stopped for lunch at Carl's juniors. I saw a man come into the restaurant and buy some food, a little while later when we sitting in our car, my husband said "I think those people live in their station wagon". Sure enough, that station wagon was loaded to the gills with everything from cooking stuff to clothing. The women that was with him, was wearing some kind of knit cap, pulled down over her ears. I see this every day, one time I went to the bath room

We have thirty inches of snow on the ground. A winter wonderland! The temperature went up to 20 today but the wind chill was terrible. It's down to 10 tonight so it is moderating a bit from the -20 we had the other day. Sharon K. In a message dated 1/18/2009 5:42:40 P.M. You could, if you came to our house. I just asked my husband, and he showed me what he has left: a stack about a half an inch high. Connie > > I sure do!! They are pretty. I doubt you could even find a punch card > anymore. Times they are achangin'. Sharon K.
7. Re: [ML] Our Mothers Things [1]
One of my favorite things came to me from my MIL. It is a small lid that my husband made as a cub scout for her for Mother's day. It has nail holes punched in it from the underside. It is a perfect zester. She loved it and saved it all those years and then gave it to me on Mother's Day after our first son was born. I treasure it and use it all the time. It is a little rusty but we all need a little mineral in our diet. Frances ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roses" To: "memory-
8. Re: [ML] Today's events [1]
Well spoken Margy.... I remember as a very young boy seeing a water fountain near the courthouse with a sign over it saying "Whites Only"..... I thought it stupid even then... in retrospect, it was even more stupid because we only had one black family in the entire county and no one was more respected that they.... The bigotry of the past still astounds me... I'm not sure a female president is all that far into the future for us..... The Hillary/Obama campaign turned into a slugfest, which she could have ea
9. Re: [ML] THE SUBJECT IS Foreign Languages/Your Family [1]
How many have tried to understand or give information to what I will call Ghetto english speaking people.? It is a different world! American english seems to be easy to learn because it has rules but every rule has an exception and every community local words. From my limited experience this is true in every language except the "dead" ones. I live in a community which continues to use German in several dialectic forms and at times it gets hilarious. It also is a Braille translation community and the s

You're right, Sharon. It IS a perfect time for stew. And it was so thoughtful of you to invite us all for dinner of stew tonight. But, with all of the ice and snow you've been having, I'm afraid I won't be able to make it. But thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. Perhaps some other time. Everybody, keep warm, wherever you are. I am so tired of freezing, I just wish winter would be gone. Donna Peachtree City, GA Everyone is invited to our house tonight for stew. Star Spangled Banner as I recall was learned stanza by stanza in Music Class which didn't start until third grade. Pledge was said every morning and America was sometime sung. My first grade teacher was a Kate Smith likeness and voice so she often sang to and for us, we also had many lessons in song and she read little brown KOKO stories after lunch . Oh how I wished I had adventures like that little boy. Bud.

23. Re: [ML] THE SUBJECT IS Bread [1]
When I was younger I loved to make bread. Didn't have a bread machine either. Did all the kneading myself. Made it when the kids were small. Would start it early in the morning and then bake it late in the afternoon. I thought it was fun then, but don't think I could do all the kneading now. You have to kneed it or it isn't going to come out right. The recipe I had made three loafs. I know I couldn't do it know. Louise ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roses" To: "memory-lane"
