Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have an idea when the first Catholic Churches were built in the Maine? I have an ancestor from Sorel who, I think, came to Maine (maybe the Augusta area) in the mid 1820s. I am assuming that there were no Catholic Churches in Maine at that time.
Thanks for the help,
Charlie King

Forgot to add that by ordering through the Massachusetts Archives,
all records are $3.00 per request which is far cheaper than ordering
through the town clerk offices and one can order up to 5 request at
one time (at $3.00 EACH). Check the website for Mass.archives to
be sure of fees. http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcres/residx.htm
(I peeked and the fee is still $3.00).....the link above tells all the fees,
records, etc.)

My father, Frank Hazelwood Rowe, was born in Bangor in 1876 and might still be in high school in 1895. Please check and let me know what you find.

Hi Charlie,
You had an interesting question and I think if you do what I just did - do a
Google Search on Catholic Churches in Maine 1820's you'll find a lot of
good information. There is even a book written. >:)

I have recently acquired the 1895 "Catalogue" of Bangor High School. It
lists all the students' names, their parents and address. Unfortunately,
none of my people (CONNELLY, GLYNN, CANON, MOONEY) are listed, but maybe
yours are! If you think you may have had someone in the high school in 1895,
give me the names and I will check.
