Jared,
Other than the SSDI entry this is the only other record I can find
of Emily Merrill. You may want to post on the MA board on rootweb. I am an
obituary volunteer but I can only get the Boston Globe from 1980 to current.
There may be others that live close to a Boston Library that can look this
obituary up for you or those that subscribe to the Boston Globe may be able to
access this? The only problem is that many people only have death notices
and it may be impossible to find
Sandy, thanks for the research tip. Right now I'm just hoping Emily Merrill
did actually die in or near Quincy, or at least her obituary ran in
newspapers in or near Quincy. But I will try everything to find her will,
or to find out if she had living relatives in California as Philip Battell
Stewart II mentioned.

Jared,
Two thoughts to find this death record. First you could always
write to check the burial permits. This is something I asked about as I do
research in Springfield, MA but they had never heard of a request for a burial
permit. They wouldnot help me but it is a try.

This is just an update on my search for "Miss Merrell" and "the Merrell
Bible." A few months ago, Howard and Jean Merrill provided information
about Emily Gertrude Merrill, younger daughter of Lewis H. Merrill and
Gertrude M. Streeter. It seems likely that Emily is the "Miss Merrell" who
reportedly left the family Bible to a favorite niece. Based on the
information that I was given, I recently had the Massachusetts Dept. of
Vital Records & Statistics in Dorchester search for Emily Merrill's death
record.
Sandy, yes, that must be the same Emily Merrill whose obituary and will I'd
like to find. So, in 1930 at the age of 34 she was unmarried. That fits
with Philip Stewart's account of "Miss Merrell" as an elderly spinster
without children of her own. Deane Merrill has very kindly informed me that
Emily Merrill is not in the Shelburne, Mass., death records. The Merrill
family plot in Arms Cemetery includes Levi Merrill 1810-1891, Harriett
A(nderson) Merrill 1815-1885, Lewis H(aws) Merrill 1848-1927, Gertrud
