I agree with Leslie - It was helpful to get those 1859 maps. I was able to find where in Knox and Jackson what part of town some ancestors lived, and consequently find the cemetaries where they were buried.
Also, it was interesting to see the big changes made in the populated parts of Thorndike where I grew up. This, I'm sure, was due to the railroad. Thorndike village, called Thorndike Station, where rte 139 goes off to Brooks has been the activity center of town since before my Mother lived there, but
The Civil War pension is for Caroline's widow's pension claim through her first husband, Charles H Stevens, my 3rd Great Grandfather. He died in the 1870s in FL and the family was claiming that he returned from service in a sickly condition from which he never recovered, which should have made Caroline eligible for a pension. She ended up fighting for it for around 20 years and left a paper-trail of over 200 pages. Included in the file is an affadavit by Albert Norton and that is the only paper that in
I find this especially true for Waldo County:

Our ancestors did not live in isolation, although we often research
them as if they did. They were part of a family, with siblings,
parents, aunts and uncles, cousins and other relatives. They were
also part of a community, with friends, neighbors, classmates, and
co-workers. This "cluster" of family, friends and neighbors can
provide valuable clues to the lives of our ancestors.
Cluster genealogy,
First, let me wish each and every one a Happy New Year. I trust that
this will be a year of blessings, joy and newly discovered family

Thanks very much for the responses. There were also 18 Heal
households in
Lincolnville in 1840, with at least 8 of them having girls under 5.
Initially I ran a search looking for John but this morning I
remembered that
there's a paper in the Civil War pension claim for my subject, Caroline

Hi. I would also like to wish my late mother, Mary (Lermond) Morse
a Happy
Birthday today. Mary was born in Lincolnville, Waldo County, Maine
on 6
Jan. 1907, the daughter of Richard J. and Annie Maria (Marriner)
Lermond.
She would be aged 101, if alive. Anyway, she's probably celebrating in
Heaven. Mary grew up in the Millertown section of Lincolnville,
married 20
March 1925 to Amon Alden Morse, born in Belmont, Waldo County,
Maine, 15
Apr. 1905, the son of John W. and Jennie (Levenseller) Morse.
Great job with the website! Has renewed my genealogy inquiry!
One thing that I've done is to look at the old maps, find the area on Google maps, and see the difference. Some of the sites that I was looking for have been photographed so I was able to find an image by traveling down the "road".
Question: what was the date that the maps made?
Thanks!

I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Annie BLACK which was taken
at the Hall Studio in Belfast, Maine. The photograph appears to have been
taken in the 1890's or 1900's with Annie appearing to be in her teens at the
time the photograph was taken. Could very well be a graduation photograph
as she appears to be holding a scroll. I'm hoping to locate someone from
this BLACK Family so that the photograph can be returned to its rightful
place with family.

My husband is a part of the Black family of Belfast and I would love to have

being ready to fight anyone at anytime.

It looks like you have found a home for this photo, but I think it is worth
mentioning that if you ever have photos (particularly those that are
identified and a location noted) that need a home, consider a library
or local historical museum as a good place to deposit them. It's
great if you can find a family member to pass them too, but sometimes
that just isn't possible. Thanks for the great rescue, Shelley.
