Hi Rhona
Sorry, can't connect.
I do not have Elizabeth or Thomas Calder in that time period.
My Jane GENTLEMAN was born 1742 - could possibly be a sister of Peter's
father, John, but I have no information on any siblings of Jane.
Good Luck
Margaret

Another year is closing in. There has been a lot of information shared on this list. People willingly share whatever information that they have - whether on their family or someone else's. Wonderful tips and suggestions pour over our computer screens on a daily basis. And there has been history shared - memories shared and we have all delighted in those glimpses of our own history as well as the historic moments that have affected our ancestors.
This year, I hope that you will seek to carry that sharing on
Hello:
I can't answer the question you have here, but I have a Mary Cummings born
about 1815, father - Bernard Cummings, who married my ggggrandfather
Lauchlan Dempster in Feb. 20 1835, St. Cuthberts, Edinburgh. That is all
the information I presently have on Mary, and would be interested if you
have any connections to her in your tree.

Hello Listers,
I am also having trouble accessing the Scotsman Archives and am looking for
early records of the Dingwall families in Glasgow pre 1854. If someone can
help me I would be grateful.
Many thanks

The following items or files have been added/updated at the site, look

What's New (Some files are for all Ireland)

If the file starts in the 1855 time frame it is probably complete, if
not I have work to do on it.

It seems my grandfather John Mackenzie's birth was never registered.
Is there a site for this type of birth?
Is there a listing of schools for Granton area for year 1875 ??
John gave his birth place as Granton on 1881 & 1891 census.
Both parents are listed as deceased on his marriage certificate (John & Saran Mackenzie (Stewart)
I wonder if he was born in a Poorhouse/Workhouse
Elizabeth in Canada
Dear all,
I'm not quite sure where to start with this request.
My 3 x gt. grandfather was John Mason, born in Haydon, Northumberland in
1813. He married his second wife, Jane Cockburn sometime between 1841 and
1846.
She gives her place of birth as Berwick on Tweed in 1851 census where she
was living at Mary Gate, Berwick upon Tweed HO107/2421, Folio 478 reverse,
p. 23, schedule 93.
In the 1851 census John Mason and his 8 year old daughter Jane (born c.1843)
are missing from the family group. They were
Hi Christine and all.
I enjoyed your posting about making a heritage record of your family's
history. You are so right about doing it now while I am still here and can
remember the stories. There have been so many time that I wish that my
parents and grandparents were still here to ask about people in their
family, when they were born, when they died, how they died etc.
I am making my New Years resolution to start and deliver my family's
heritage book to my children. I have been collecting my informat
In answer to #5- these were Banns
The proclamation of banns was the notice of contract of marriage, read out
in the Kirk before the marriage took place. Couples or their 'cautioners'
(sponsors) were often required to pay a 'caution' or security to prove the
seriousness of their intentions. Forthcoming marriages were supposed to be
proclaimed on three successive Sundays, however, in practice, all three
proclamations could be made on the same day on payment of a fee. If the
bride and groom lived in different

Hi listers,
Just letting you know that there has been a freeCEN database update and the
following 1841 parishes are now available for searching:
Ecclesmachan
Queensferry
Torpichen
Livingston
Whitburn
My hard working team has also done Carriden and Linlithgow but for some
reason they haven't appeared. Keep your eye out for the next update for
those. A big thanks you to my volunteers for making this possible.

I you have checked the birth index films at the FHC and he is not in the
main body of the films check the tail end of each year (on the film) for
births the were missed, after 12 months, army births, depending on what
year there are other listings. I found one of my people via this
method. Did you check the Scotland Peoples website?

Nola,
Welcome to the MLN/WLN list.
To aid you in your search here are a few records that will help.
The first batch are the Couper/Coopers born in Queensferry. Your family
is here infact three sons are listed.
Never trust only one spelling, check all variations of the names. Your
family shows at least four spellings in two generations
Note Janet Thornton Cowper spelling, must be correct since correct
parents and dates.
Best I can do for you
I have NO additional data on this surname, the FHC would be
