Hello James,
I too am Canadian, and have used my credit card over the past seven years
very judiciously to pay for information
I have used my card to pay for 'Scotland's People' research and downloads.
WOW!! FIRST: Info is cheap like borscht!
The searches and resulting documents that I have retrieved has saved my eyes
and body from countless hours of scrolling through films to get information
on our Scottish Family.
Amazingly, my original searches of several years past are still available
through Scotl
Hello Susan:
If you find that your Buchanan's ( I have an Annie, death before 1853,
father John Buchanan) have any relationship to Ritchie's ( Annie married
Peter Richie, May 07, 1828) I would be interested in hearing from you. I
have no other information as yet on Annie or the Buchanan Family. Peter and
Annie were located in Edinburgh.

Hi
Not sure why you can't access Scotlands People.
It is free to register and you only have to pay a small amount to be able to
get details. (That is a small amount unless like me you have a whole
regiment of ancestors in Scotland!!)

You can also buy credit vouchers through the mail. The ScotlandsPeople website has a form that you
can print off and mail to them. I believe you can use a cheque or money order to pay for the
vouchers.

Does anyone know of a web site that holds archives of former football players, from the 1960s. As my late cousin played for one of the Edinburgh teams, and I am trying to find info on him. My mum said to check Tynecastle but I could find no archives on the web. Any ideas welcome.
Thanks Sandra
Hi again,Colleen
I think I have found Thomas and Agnes's son John in the 1851 Scottish
census. Aged 50, and born Torphichen, Linlithgow, he is living with his
wife Helen, aged 43, and family, in Roxburgh Terrace,Edinburgh.
He is a Janitor at the University of Edinburgh.
His wife Helen was born in Edinburgh. Their children (all born Edinburgh)
are as follows:
Elizabeth Arthur 18
Thomas G L Arthur 13
Henrietta Arthur 8
John B Arthur 6
Helen Arthur 9 months
They have a house servant, Ch
Hello Bob
Thank you , I have the children as I purchased the BVRI both the first
and second editions. I also have the marriage. The need I have is the birth
place of William the father Jane was born in Edinburgh that I know from the
IGI marriage record it gives her father as Angus Sinclair. The 1841 census
just has out of county for William and the 1851 is only 31% at the moment,
I was hoping SKS had access to the 1851.
Again thank you
Bob
The following should make your search a bit easier. The LDS/FHC hold
the films for these records.

I am looking for any information on the Buchanan family from Midlothian. My gggrandfather James Buchanan puts his birth around 1829-1830 in Galawater, Midlothian and his parents were John and Elizabeth (Maiden name unknown). I have not been able to find his birth or anything about his parents. They should be on 1841 Census but haven't been able to find them yet. James later went to England where he was married in Liverpool in 1854 before coming out to Australia. His son was named John Gray Buchanan so the G

Hi, yet again, Colleen
I have found Elizabeth Arthur's baptism record on the IGI. She was baptised
Elizabeth Scott Arthur on 14 February 1832 at the Bread Street United
Presbyterian Church in Edinburgh. The United Presbyterian was one of the
Churches that broke away from the established Church of Scotland, and
explains why the baptism record is not to be found on Scotlands People.
I think that they may appear at some time in the future.

Hi Rhoda, I cannot thank youB enough for your efforts as it would have been very difficult to find this information without your help.

Have you tried

to see if there are siblings and marriages that you could follow to see if
there are descendents? If you haven't, contact me again, and I will walk

Hi Colleen
Scotlands People has an entry for the marriage and/or reading of banns for
Thomas Arthur and Agnes Walker on 22 April 1798.in Linlithgow, West Lothian.
I haven't looked at the image so don't know if it is a reading of banns or
the date of the marriage. This may be the reading of the banns in the home
town of one of the two marriage partners. The other may have come from
MidCalder.
I found 4 entries for childern born to Thomas and Agnas (sic):
Jannet 5/5/1799 Torphichen, West Lothian
John
Are there any descendents of either of these sisters out there please?
They were born 11th April and baptised 12th April 1804, with parents David
Ross and Helen Taylor.
Kind regards,
Craig A. Ross
Hi Bob

Hope that this helps.

Hi Kay
I looked for James Dow born Kirkcaldy 1862 on the 1871 Scotland census but couldn't find him. So checked the death indices on Scotlands People. I am afraid that he died in Kirkcaldy in 1862.

Fellow researchers, I have a dilemma in that there are two ladies called
Christian Lumsden featuring in my tree and I'm not sure if they may be the

I have an OPR birth for the first Christian Lumsden showing baptism 13 May

There is some debate over this OPR, as it actually shows the father as James
Lumsden. With some help from cousins, we have concluded that this may have
been the registrar getting the father and witn
