Hello,
I'm a new subscriber to this list. My Huron County research focus is the
James CARTWRIGHT family of Port Austin (1870-1932+).
Would anyone know where I could obtain a map of Huron County Townships? In
looking at census records I'm having difficulty visualizing where these
areas are in relationship to one another especially in 1870-1880 when towns
and settlements were not necessarily identified.
There were other Cartwrights in the area early on and supposedly they are
connected. Being able to tr
Hello Ron!
You are an answer to my prayers ... or at least my research wishes. I had
found bits and pieces of what you relate but not quite enough to connect all
the dots. This is absolutely marvelous.
My great-grandfather James Cartwright was the son of Solomon's son Abel.
Abel was born in 1826 in Duckinfield, Lancs. I knew only of him and his
older sisters, Mary Ann (1817), Jane (1819) Martha (1821) and Hannah (1824).
Solomon's wife was the former Hannah Binns. GGGrandfather Abel was married

Hello Friends,
Several years ago I purchased a chest of drawers made by George
BRADFORD, of Huron County, Michigan. It is a lovely piece of work,
made of cherry, about 4 1/2 feet high. He signed the piece on the
back panels: George Bradford, Huron Co., Michigan, April 16, 1840.
I am very much interested in finding information on the George
Bradford family and his descendants.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Best regards,
Jim Sazevich, (a 4 yr. volunteer on the Ramsey Co., Minn. list)

Hello again,
Could someone direct me to whomever would have the records for the Port
Austin Village Cemetery?
There are infants buried in the family plot there whose births and deaths
were not registered. I am hoping that there are burial records to help
confirm the brief existance of these little ones.
I am also in pursuit of possible baptism records but there doesn't seem to
have been a permanent Episcopal church in Port Austin during the 1870's and
1880's, so I'm still hunting for a source there too.
Kathleen,
I picked up my Huron County Map which shows township boundaries in 1985 from
the Huron County Clerk's Office at Bad Axe, MI. It has an address on it as
follows:
Huron County Road Commission
417 S. Hanselman
Bad Axe, Michigan 48413
Hope this helps.

Hi Dan,
I have not come across Zapfe spelled that way before. I tend to think that
it was either spelled Zapfe or Zaphe or Zapf, from what I have found, but
you just never know! I can't connect to your people, but I would like to
keep your email in case I do find some connection. I think that my people
came from Prussia, possibly Rheinland?
Good luck in your search,

Thank you for the birth records. I was hoping that JAMES HALL was my
mother's long lost brother, but now, I don't think he's the guy. However,
there were lots of Halls up there in the thumb, so there may be a connection
yet. Thanks again for your time.

Donald and Catherine McDonald, both Canadian-born, are shown in the 1860 census in Dwight Township and in 1870 in Port Austin. After that there is not a trace of them in the area. Where did they go?
Where in Canada were they from? Donald was of Scottish descent & Catherine was of German descent. Their daughter Mary Jane McDonald Scahill Harden died in Port Huron in 1930. They also had children Sarah, Charles E., Arabella (Bell), William H., David & George. Where did they all go? there first child,

Dear List Owner and Members,
First I apologize to those that read this more than once as I am posting it
to multiple groups.
Lately there seem to be quite a few postings without any dates, even
approximate.
I work full time and fit in my research in spare moments. I have quite a few
resource books and xeroxes from LDS films of census, vital stats, etc. for
Huron, Tuscola, and Sanilac counties, Michigan.
Always glad to do a check in these if I know the approximate years and know
if these sources might be rel
If you are interested researching in the Ubly area, there is a book available
from the Sleeper Public Library in Ubly that contains pictures and histories
of many of the families in Ubly. It is called "How it All Began: A History of
Ubly Area Families". Call the library at 517-658-8901 for more information.
They can send it to you for $20 + $3 shipping. I found 4 families that are
related to me so far.

Dan,
Thanks for the idea. I'm sure I can get one of the Michigan relatives to
make a AAA run for me.
