Hello,
Could someone look up my 3rd great aunt's obituary for me, please?
Name: EISENHART, Helen
Date of Death: 04 SEPTEMBER 1948
Date of Birth: 01 APRIL 1895
I finally got the opportunity to call the Mt. Perry cemetery in Oakland County,
but they said there is no record of her burial there. Helen's daughter is
still living and she says that's where her mother is buried. It could be that
the cemetery's records don't go far back.
Thank you,
--Chris

There is a house on the west side with an address plaque that says BING and gives the address. Does anyone know the history of the Bings and that area of Oakland County? Did they own large portions of land that was later sold off? Was there a community by
I have some photos of headstones at Roseland. Let me know who you are looking
for and I will see if I have them. I am not really up to going there to do
photos now, but sometime next year I will. Maybe in the Spring. We just buried
my father there, so when I have less to do, I will do photos when I go visit.

There's a village or city called Bingham Farms that borders Telegraph and 13 Mile Rd. Maybe the area was owned by them? The Oakland County Pioneer & Historical Society might have info too. http://wwnet.net/%7Eocphs/index.html

A couple of years ago I was doing some research in Livingston County, which is right next to Oakland County. I went to the county clerk's office to look for a death record from 1872 with the intent of going to the probate court. The county clerk told me I would be required to have a death certificate in order to request the probate file. I did get the death certificate and the court did ask to see it so this apparently isn't just in Oakland County.

You can order the estate directly from Oakland County, however, depending on
who gets your request they may also want a copy of a death certificate.
They seem to waiver from day to day on what they want and how they want it.
You didn't give a death date so I Would suggest that when you write you
include a phone number where they can contact you and proof that the person
in the will is actually deceased.

They sent the check back because you didn't send enough to cover the pages.
Send them the check for the $23 and you should get the file.

Christie,
Mostly its for probates that are from the past 40 or 50 years. Sometimes
it just depends on who takes you when you go to the desk. It seems to be
rather "unpredictable" as to what the rules will be from time to time. The

the rules, I just live to break them!
I try NOT to deal with the probate end of the courthouse primarily for

Christie,
Well said!!
I still have yet to learn if they charge extra to bring a book up from their
basement. I live in New Mexico and asked a cousin who lives in Waterford to
check on this. She said she would, but never did. Be great if Oakland County
had a library that does like the Mt. Clemons library does. I am grateful for
what they do.

Could someone please advise me as to the best way to get a copy of a will
that is recorded in the Oakland County Probate Court files. I understand
that they charge $1 a page and I am glad to pay an additional $10 for your
trouble, but I wonder if the court provides copies directly? Thank you.

I was able to go through an index at Oakland Co. Probate. They were great---I
ordered up many, many films. I went downstairs grabbed a sandwich and when I

They were very gracious I had no problem.

Dear group,
I had another will I needed from Washtenaw Co., and after waiting 6 months
they sent me the wrong will for a person who died a year later with the same
name. I only got the right will after an angel in the Washtenaw
Genealogical Society went in and copied it for me. So we will see how fast
this one comes.. Winnie

My great grandparents both died in 1938 and when I wanted to see the
probate records I was tole I would have to have a death cert for both of
them in order to get the probate records.

Okay, Karen says just for the past 40-50 years a cert is required. I don't
quite understand the rationale considering 1954 - which is 50 years ago if you
start with 2004 to calculate is fairly recent time frame.

After I wrote the last note on this topic I got a note from someone that has
gone to the Oakland County Courthouse and requested a probate file and it
was from, I believe Bef the 1950's, and they asked her for a death
certificate. I was flabbergasted. Then she also stated, and she's on this
list, that once she produced the certificates, they decided how much and
what parts of the file she could copy. So obviously there is a lot of
discrepancy in how the different clerks handle this stuff.
