I actually joined this list because a friend and myself are researching
the
history of her home. We know who owned the land, before the house...and
all
the owners up to present day. However, we can't find exactly when the
house
was built or who lived their first. This is a house in Whitehall,
Michigan. Used to be Oceana County, now Muskegon County. Where would be
a
good place to search for info?
PS: Hi, this is my first post. :-)

DAGE/DEEG/DEIG/DAG/DEG are some alternate spellings of the name that is
now spelled "DAGUE" by most descendants of brothers Friedrich and Andreas
Deeg who emigrated from Durlach, Baden, Germany to America in 1753.
I am posting information about the Dague National Reunion under these
alternate spellings to reach other family members who may still be using
these spellings. For information about this national reunion celebrating

Hello, I am new to this list.
I am looking for information on Burton SMITH and his wife, Sarepta GEBHART.
Burton was born April 28, 1866, in Clayton, Jefferson Co., MI, the son of

of John Gebhart, on July 4, 1889, in Mears, Oceana Co., MI. In 1905, they are
listed as living in Mears, but by 1934 Burton is listed as living in
Walkerville (I don't know if Sarepta was still alive). They had at least one
daughter, Laura Pearl (

Hi Tod,
I can't tell if you are interested or passing along the Davis information.
But I can say that this would be the same locations for the Draggoo name.
They were in Monongalia, then Ohio, DeKalb County, IN and the same locations
in Oceana County. You do not mention the middle geography specifically,
but I wonder if they at least were neighbors all along the way. Furthur,
Jacob and Minerva Miller Cole are related, though you make scant reference
to Cole. This last pair were married at Knox Coun

Hello to any ROUGHT historians lurking,
As you know, family tradition (at least in some parts of the family) has it
that three brothers (Leonard, George and Jacob) came to the Nicholson area
sometime around 1800. There is certainly some evidence to support this in
the census records from 1800 on as well as some tax lists. There are at
least two schools of thought about who their father was.
One group believes that Henry (Hendrick) was the father. There is, as far
as I know, no evidence to support this

Anyone on the list know where/how to find a death notice/ceritificate/obit for a John W. Althouse, October 11, 1907, Oceana County.
I am assuming that Michigan did not require death certificates until 1917 as other States.
Thanks in advance...Bev...
According to Everton's Handy Book, the Co Clerk has death
records from 1868.

Hi Beth,
My Dad's mother was from Shelby, and her name was Lillie Dodge
(1879-1968). Her parents were Nebraska Dodge and Mary Alice Miller. Lillie
married Bert Thomas Canning, who was b. 1875 in Hart, Mi and deserted the
family in the 1920's when they were living in Cornell, Wisconsin. Bert's
parents were Thomas Canning and Adela Piper. Any help finding what happened
to Bert would be so great. My Dad is 89 this month, and I would love to be
able to tell him what became of his father.
Thanks,
Bonnie Wald
Hello Beth,
Thank you for your answer. My family's name was Pittenger. Samuel and
Alexander lived there in 1880 to about 1904. Email works best for me
because my hours are pretty unpredictable. Thank you so much for getting
me the answer about the cemetery they called Cemetery Hill. What is it
called today and where is it located.
Thanks,
Constance

Can anyone please tell me which cemetery in Shelby was once called Cemetery Hill? My family were buried there in the 1890's to about 1910. I think it may be Mount Hope Cemetery, but I'm coming all the way from Texas and I must be sure.
Thank you so much,
Constance
