Could anyone tell me of any newspapers that would have been running in the
Washtenaw County area in 1888...I am looking for an article on a Barney
Hitchnyher(sp?) being shot or injured and killed by a shotgun) this would
have been around April 28 or 29 of 1888 Hope someone can help me with
this info...Thanks so much Lynette nettiebug1059@aol.com
There is an Edward Dresselhouse age 3 in the 1880 census, Sharon, Washtenaw,
Michigan. Parents, John Dresselhouse, 28 born MI. parents born Prussia and
Emma Dresselhouse, 25 born MI. parents born Prussia.
Karl,
I do not know of any research past or present regarding cemetery procedures.
Maybe Karen Walker could give us a little summary of what she learned when
she and Marty Carr were co-chairman of our cemetery committee. Do you want to
ask her?
I do know that the State once had a Cemetery commission but I believe it was
done away with. Do you want to write the state and start gathering
information? That would be very helpful. I would be interested in hearing
what you are learning.
Sounds like you
Greetings:
Can some one please tell me when the Detroit City Directory was first
published? Hopefully between 1850 & 1860?
Trying to fine John & Anna Shoemaker who were in 1860 census in
Detroit ward 6.
Very hard to find what ship they came from in Prussia 1846 to 1860!

Thanks, Nancy! I appreciate the info!!!

Mary,
I don't think that's him. The John Dresselhouse(Dresselhaus) mentioned in
the other post who would have been born 1851/1852 (married to the mystery
Emma) with Edward as a son age 3 in 1880 seems to be the guy I was wondering
about. However, the John you mention poses another mystery! I don't have
any John (or Johann or "whoever-Johann") married to a Huehl.
Wm,
Check with the Burton Historical Collection for Detroit city directories.
On-line catalog shows 1837, 1875, and 1899 but I suspect they have others.

Mary,
I checked both the FHL on-line catalog and State Archives website for
Washtenaw County land records and turned up nothing. The State Archives have
records relating to the original land surveys in Michigan such as tract
books and survey notes but not the later land transactions you are
interested in.

Gloria,
By coincidence I have an obituary for Edward Dresselhouse. He was born Feb
19, 1877 in Sharon Township to John and Amelia (Davidter) Dresselhouse. Died
Feb 8, 1968 in Hamburg, MI at Clague Nursing Home. Married Emma Grossman
March 7, 1906.
If you would like a copy of the obit, contact me off list and I'll scan and
send to you.

Thanks for the info Jan...He would have been shot in Washtenaw Co. so I
guess I will have to go from there, and try to get to the area soon to do
some checking....Lynette
Loretta,
There is a Bethel United Church of Crist on Bethel Church Rd Manchester.
Sharon Township which is JUST west of Freedom Township.
Would give that a look see. Don't let boundary lines hinder your searching.

Am researching cemetery procedures. Has anyone run across a discussion or
whatever concerning changes since 1867 of what death documents are required
and how they are handled in Michigan? For instance, in 1952 the state law
was changed directing death certificates and Burial-Transit Permits be
delivered directly to the county rather than local (township) government.
More recently Burial-Transit Permits are being retained by the cemetery.
Thanks, Karl Williams - Superior Township
Hi!
Sorry to take so long to acknowledge your response to
me! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain
this to me. It makes sense to me now, and I really
appreciate it!
I have another question for you, or another lister, if
you don't mind. The LDS library also has
naturalization records for Washtenaw Co. Have you or
anyone else used them? I don't recall the years they
cover - but it's quite a broad span. I looked at
them, though, and they appear to be the actual
records, but not an index. D
Mary,
Nancy is too modest to mention it, but she has extracted a number of
Washtenaw County naturalizations and published them in Capers. I don't know
what years she has published or what years you are looking for but you can
find old issues of Capers with indexes at the FHL/GSWC library on Hill
Street in Ann Arbor. You should be able to locate the naturalizations in
Capers through the PERSI index. All libraries in Michigan should have access
to Ancestry.com's the on-line version.
Good luck,
Jan

Thanks! That must be my mystery man. I have a John Dresselhouse born "about
1851", son of Gerhard Lambert Henry Dresselhaus & Christina Jans (or Johns).
I don't have a marriage for John. In fact, there are a lot of loose ends in
this branch. Sure wish I knew Emma's maiden name! ;-)

Hi!
I show a John Dresselhaus who married Margaretha HUEHL
12-30-1862 in Washtenaw Co.. Don't know if that could
be a match or not.....

Okay I think I found the death cert. with the last name spelled Hitchnyher
instead of Hitchingham as it is now spelled and he died in Washtenaw Co...So
I will go on from there and try to make it to the area soon to try to check
this out...Thanks for the help Lynette
Lenawee is a County. Is that what you are referring to? Lenawee County is
SW of Detroit along the Michigan Ohio Border. County Seat is Adrian,
Michigan.

I am trying to locate the church where my father was baptized. There is no
county or state record of his birth, so am looking into the possibly that
there may be baptism records. I believe it would be a Lutheran Church. It is
not Bethlehem Church in Ann Arbor or the Salem Lutheran Church. In the later
years, he was a member of Bethlehem Church. He was born Jan 21, 1894 on a
farm part of a family of eleven children. His family had farms in Northfield
Twp, Lodi Twp and/or Freedom Twp. Does anyone kno
