Hi Mary and everyone, There was an article in the French Canadian and Acadian Genealogical Review (Vol. 1 Number 1), dealing with the origins of the Hains family. It explains that the Hains brothers were captured in a raid and taken to Quebec at the ages of 12 and 7. Based on the article, the reference to criminals seems to be mistaken. Hi Wayne, Yes, East Grand Forks is in Polk County. The address is: Polk County Court House, Crookston, MN, 56716, or at least that's what it was in 1995! Grand Forks is in Grand Forks County, and am sure you can send it to the County Court House there. You might also try the North Dakota Department of Health, 600 E. Boulevard Avenue, Bismarck, ND, 58505-0200. Have you tried the gen web sites for these counties? They are very good, and will give lots of info about the recording of birthdates, cost of ce
