1. [MNRAMSEY] New Year's Eve 1852 [1]
Forwarded to me, author unknown but too good not to pass along. It is New Year's Eve, 1852 and John Smith sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions: ********************************** 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all

Can anyone help Nancy? Please respond directly to her -- "LeClaire, Nancy" Mary List mom I'm looking for several surnames from Ramsey County from way back when. Ek Erickson (Ed, wife Johanna, kids Edwin, Walter, Esther) Jensen (Thomas & Anna) Moberg Thanks in advance for any assistance +++++ Nancy added the following information, which narrows the time a little, though it appears that even a 1900 census search might help! >Ed Erickson arrived from Sweden to St. Paul about

Can anyone help Nick? Note his e-mail. I don't know if he's on our mailing list or not. I'm assuming that he's aware that military records for U.S. troops are maintained at the Federal level, and not at the county or state level. But the family info -- addresses from city directories, occupation, etc. -- would be here. Anyone interested in doing a lookup for him? Often the cemetery is listed on the death certificate -- and if it isn't, he can write to the funeral director who will be listed. Note his e-mail address below -- I'm not sure he is on our list. Death notices are much more likely in the St. Paul newspapers than full obituaries, such as are seen in less urban settings, unless there was something newsworthy about the death -- important position held such as government or business official, murder, highway (
6. KAHN Family - St. Paul MN and St. Joseph MO Area early 1900's [1]
My name is Jeanne, and I live outside Billings, Montana. Personally, I have had great response from LIST members in my own family searches; they are the most knowledgeable persons about their particular areas, and I have found them to be generous with their time and help as well. Now I've become a last-minute volunteer helping U of Montana students looking for more information about a group of more than 70 men and women imprisoned in Montana in 1918 during WWI for speaking out against the government (inf

8. [MNRAMSEY] YESTERDAYS UPDATED [1]
Hi list, for those of you with English ancestry, the Yesterdays site, link below, has thousands of references to persons from all over the British Isles who appear in official documents. Many of these records give vital clues as to previous or later whereabouts of the individuals. They also give an insight into the life and times of our ancestors and what they were up against Read some Workhouse reports under Board of Guardians. The records are varied but include Rogues and Vagabonds, Settlement document
9. [MNRAMSEY] Information about Karen Marie Larsen [1]
Dear Edwin, I am an instructor of Family Tree Maker for the Senior Net Program at the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls, SD. Many of my students have a Scandinavian background and have been successful in finding ancestors. Several have been to visit there too. If you find out where she lived, it will be helpful of course but then they have great records to review. Good Luck, Asella Crum

12. [MNRAMSEY] Information about Karen Marie Larsen [1]
My great grandmother died in Ramsey county on January 23,1892. She was also married in Ramsey county but I do not have a date. Her maiden name was Karen Marie Larsen. She married Adolph Van Soelen and they lived in the Saint Paul area until her death in 1892. I filled out two applications to Ramsey county and returned the form with a check as required. I received a note back from the county indicating that they have no record, death or marriage for Karen. I am at a loss to know where to go from here. Karen

Not yet but I may have a lead through a contact in New Mexico. Karen's grandson became a somewhat renown artist in Santa Fe ( Theodore Van Soelen) and I am in contact with his granddaughter who may know which cemetery Karen was buried in. I have my fingers crossed! 16. Re: land records [1]
Some years back--before the blm site went online, I ordered a land record for about $140-20, I think. It didn't give me any new info; just a signature and date ( and the date may already have been available in the co. land record) Good luck! 25. Re: [MNRAMSEY] Seeking church for Bohemians in St. Paul [1]
I have a question. I have a high school yearbook from my great-aunts high school class. It has incredible photos of the classmates. Only a few are identified. This book is very frail. I'd like to donate it. What do I do? I also have photos of my mother standing on the steps of the old Rosemount School In one photo, she's standing with a student. There is also a photo with a group of students. These photos from Rosemount are probably from about 1949 - 1950. I may also be interested in
