Yes, I have considered that but the names sure look like Gentry and not Gerty. Anything is possible for sometimes it is hard to figure out the handwritting of the census takers.
The census records is all I have to go on at this point.
Any suggestions as to where I might find something else that

Her grandson said he knows she is buried at the Old Stubbs Cemetary in TX County Missouri but doesn't know where that would be in the county. There are two Stubbs Cemeteries listed for Texas County.
Her birthdate was 4-26-1875

Is this the correct person? If it is they don't seem to know where he died.
I suggest you also check the Mailing List Archives for people who will answer on the List, instead of on the Message Board as they should.

Have you considered the idea that Gentry and Gertrude are the same person, especially since you say the names never appear together?? The ages you quote would indicate that, and if you are relying on the census only without other records. Maybe Gentry is Gerty/Gertey?

The usual--wills, marriage records, cemetery--the only other thing I can think of would be scholastic censuses. You wouldn't get the children's name, but you would get the parent and the number of children in school. These are available at other dates than just the every 10 years of the censuses. Also if you

As for Gentry and Gertrude everyone says they

I have visited this cemetery. I'm not sure the online listing is complete.
I would recommend calling the cemetery office. I have called them in the
past and found them quite helpful. If you will email me at
dseevers@fidnet.com I can give you the phone number and possibly other
information on St. Louis area burials that you might find useful
Check the website Genealogy in St. Louis for the obits available fromm the early 1890 to the 1940's. I found 3 catherin Krennings just glancing one in 1909 and 1 in 1919. If there was an obit, it's just a matter of having the date and getting someone to copy it.
