Lanita, Not sure of your source, but that looks like they might be references to microfilm numbers. Here is an example from the US Park Service database: Lewis S. 2. Re: [MO-CW] Re: MO-CW-D Digest V05 #67 [1]
There are several rosters available on-line. If you can't find them, let me know, and I will do a search and send you the URLs. No roster can be complete. Most of them are based on post-war membership in veterans groups. Quantrill's participation stretch from the early days when he was a Jayhawker in Kansas, to the time that his own Bushwhackers kicked him out, and he went to Kentucky to join forces with Sue Mundy. One of my relatives rode with him in the very early days at Lone Jack and Independence,
3. Re: Daviess & Gentry County Civil War Units [1]
Lanita, You forgot to say whether you wanted northern or southern units from Daviess & Gentry Counties in the Civil War, so I will take a stab at both. For the South, those two counties contributed southern men into the 4th Division of the Missouri State Guard during 1861. Most of those units and many of the men in early 1862 converted into Confederate service from state service. Thereafter, since Missouri was wholly occupied for the rest of the war by Union troops, southern men from th

5. Craynor's Regiment State Militia Infantry [1]
CRAYNOR's REGIMENT STATE MILITIA INFANTRY Does any one know anything about this Regiment and their activities in 1861 ? Also, were there any military prisons in MO during the Civil War. I have an ancestor that was with this regiment and died Dec. 31, 1861. Family lore has it that he died at Andersonville prison but this prison wasn't even built until 1863. So am wondering if it could have been another prison. Thank You for any help anyone can provide..........Dorothy
6. Re: Guerrilla General Named Crabtree [1]
Glenn, To my knowledge, there is no such roster of the men "General Crabtree" recruited in south Cole and north Miller County during 1861 and 1862. At least in several expeditions Crabtree (he just called himself "General"--he was not one) carried his recruits to south-central Missouri and evidently turned them over to Confederate Colonels William O. Coleman and Thomas R. Freeman to help them fill up their regiments. Therefore, if you had an ancestor from those two counties or nearby who wo

Where would one find a roster of partisan rangers who fought with a guerilla general named Crabtree. A roster of those who rode with Joe Shelby? 8. Re: Daviess and Gentry County units [1]
Lanita: If you can sort out the service of Daviess County men in the Civil War, you'll have a real accomplishment. However, there are some sources that can help, especially on the Union side. The 1882 history of Daviess County may be available in the Gallatin Library. If not, I've seen it on microfilm from Salt Lake, and I've obtained it on interlibrary loan. Daviess County furnished three companies -- A, B and G -- to the First Cavalry Regiment, Missouri State Militia. The respective commanders w

Thank you for your quick reply. I had already found this but was hoping for a more thorough account of this regiment.. It isn't on the Soldiers and Sailors page. And neither is my descendant. We had quite a time finding him but finally did yesterday. Do you know where the clsosest Confederate prison was ? Isaac D.V. PORTER enlisted Nov. 21, 1861 and died Dec. 31, 1861. So he probably wasn't taken too far away. Thanks again for you response...........Dorothy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Arle

http://www.southernmessenger.org/the_gray_ghost_column.htm this site has George from Clay county which is just south of jackson county. Quantrill's George was executed in 65 so that maybe why he's not on 1870. I think i found them in 1870 (possible) Miami, Saline, MO (east of Jackson). ... Lusk Samuel 39 KY .. Margaret F. 31 TN .. Jane MM 2 MO ...Jennie B 6/12 MO Robinson James 13 MO ... Elizabeth 11 MO (Bettie would be my guess) .... Geo. W 8 MO I also found this on a.com marriage record for MO SAMUE

Talking as I search: Missouri solders named Smith listed on both sides: 2,294 G Smith: 142 R Smith: 63 George: 105 Richard: 14 George W: 41 Looking at a map of northeast Missouri. These were probably Enrolled Missouri Militia. I don't believe any of my Porter's were ever living in MO. Isaac's family in 1860 were living in Ringgold Co., IA. and I assume that inlisting in MO was closer than anywhere in IA. My Porter's came from Ill. and KY before that. Of course maybe some extended family members had moved there. Anything is possible. Thank you for the additional information. I will check those out and see what I can find. This Regiment was formed Oct. 1, 1861 so some of these activities were too early for this regiment. The
