I've always wondered what people found that was so creepy about graveyards, and now I know-- William T. Sherman! Ahhhhhh!

Just a note to everyone. I'm looking forward to trying to answer your
questions.
Been real busy dealing with Union problems at work. I'll address questions
in length in the next day or so. I've been pulling my hair out at the
hospital & I'm just about ready to start looking into a new career.
(Hopefully one dealing with history ;~)

Jim, The Homestead Act of 1862 provided for federal land grants in various
states west of the Mississippi to persons who would settle the property,
improve (farm or ranch) it, erect a dwelling on it, and live on the property
continuously for 5 years. A former Union soldier could use a year of army
service to satisfy a year of the 5 year residency requirement (up to 4 years
total). Many soldiers settled in Kansas and Nebraska in this way. Records

History and cultural heritage will be celebrated this weekend in High Ridge.
The 11th annual Demaree Fair is Saturday and Sunday with events for the
entire family.
"It started off trying to get the community involved in the history of the
area," said Rhea Milisitch, fair chairman and secretary for the Northwest
Historical and Preservation Society.

Phantom Army of the Civil War and other Southern Ghost Stories. * Compiled &
edited by Frank Spaeth (from the files of Fate magazine) 238 total pages,
published by Castle books in 1997. Ghost stories. Runs $7.99 but a friend
picked this up for me at Wal-Mart for $5.97. Do not be confused by the
title, there is not much associated with the Civil War in this book. I would
have given it a higher rate if I was doing it for ghost stories only, but it
falls short for a Civil War fix.

Hi. I'm new here and I thought I would add my info. I'm not an expert...I'm
hoping to learn.
This is what I have on my gg grandfather Alexander Hamilton Kerr.
He was a Sgt. Co. I, 26 Reg. Engineer Missouri Militia/Union Army. Comanding
officer: Capt. C. Wilhite. Enrolled March 1864 in Bolivar, Polk
County,Missouri-Ordered into active action April 25, 1864-Relieved from
active duty Nov. 19, 1864. Number of actual service-55 days.
I sent to the National Archives hoping to get his pension file, but
If you have seen the Blair Witch Project, you have heard of Burkittsville,
Maryland. But did you know that there was no Blair Witch? The small town
does have ghost stories surrounding a band of Confederates who died in 1862,
during the battle of Crampton's Gap.
In Burkittsville, is a small hump of ground, known as Spook Hill. The locals
say that cars left in neutral here, will roll up the grade, instead of down.
(Of course, who would walk off & leave your car in neutral) This is an
optical illusion, I'm as

I am looking for George W. McIntosh, he was born in 1843. He was in Howard County Mo. in 1870 working for William Biler as a farm hand. Stating he was born in Mo. I think maybe Mr. Biler might of entered his name in the census. In the 1880 census he had married and it said he was born in Va. He died in 1882 in Howard County. This is all I can find out about him. His wife was Sarah Elizabeth Gearhart, they married in Morgan County. Please reply.

Did he get a pension? Did he file? Did you check for different name
spellings? No one could find land information for Ellis Campbell in MO
either.. they were under Ellis Camel, so easy, yet we missed it completely!
The only reason I found it, because Lon's father Russell Campbell (great
grandson of Ellis) always called himself Russell Camel! Went on assumption
that good ol' Ellis might have used the same pronunciation.. he did.
