Hi Bill,
You certainly can acquire info fast!
In 1820 George Joy was in IL, I have forgotten where in 1830, somewhere
between IL, AR & MO. I believe he purchased land in Lovely Co. AR, in
about 1828 but that county actually belonged to the Indian Nations and
had to be vacated. Yes, he is in Crawford Co. for a limited time, then
into Missouri by the 1840 census. By 1845, he's in Texas and died
there, but the Porter Joy you located was a son who did not move with
his son, George.
Looking at my B
I am trying to find if there might be a newspaper obit for my 2nd great aunt
who died January 21, 1932 near Jenkins in Barry County. Her name is Mary
Armenda Rogers Henson and is buried in Potter Cemetery. Her husband is
George Washington Henson who died January 2, 1929 and is buried beside her.
I appreciate any guidance in finding this valuable information for my Rogers
line.
Thank you,
Carol Ansley
I found this in the Cassville Democrat July 25, 1914. I found it interesting and thought I would pass it along.
Mrs. Swindle (Mrs. John Swindle) was in a little reminence mood. And she asked the Democrat representative if he knew why that Gadfly now Corsicana was called Gadfly? She said it was because Asher Fly lived on Shoal Creek and Nicholas Fly a kinsman lived on head of Joys Creek and that they would gad about to see on another, resulting in the town being called Gadfly.

William Searcy may have returned to Republic? Bill
Have you put them on a CD to share with family? Maybe mail them out,
ask they ID photos & return?
Just a thought

Goodspeeds Publishing Company published histories for many counties
throughout the United States in or about 1888. The book for SW Missouri covers
several counties. Since the copy write has long expired the BCG&H Society was able
to reprint the Barry and Lawrence County sections in paperback and sell at a
reasonable price.

Does anybody have information on William B. Searcy? He was my
3g-grandmother's second husband. They married 19 Feb 1899 in Barry
County. Her maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Morrison, and her first
husband was Isaac J. Doyel. She died at Exeter in 1914, but I don't know
what happened to William B. Searcy. They are together on the 1900 census,
but I can't find either of them on 1910.

Mr. Joy is mentioned twice in Goodspeeds but only as portions of Henry
McCary's address.
George Joy was taxed for 1 horse and five cattle in Greene County in 1833
and in 1834 for 1 horse and 6 cattle. His neighbors in 1834 were John Meeks,
Morgan Meeks, John Haddock, William Haddock, James and John McKinney.
George Joy was not there for the 1840 census. Bill

I've been asked to post this to the list.

Thanks. I wasn't off by too much, but almost a mile, so I
wouldn't have found it.
It sounds like it is close to here:

Thank you Bill,
I'll have to look on the land deeds site to see if I can find where
these other men were living. I think it's undergoing updating at the
moment.
By 1840, George Joy is on the Newton Co, MO census. His name is often
spelled incorrectly in records as IVY. Looking at the old handwriting,
it's obvious why.

Thanks! However my William B. was born in 1834, and would've been 75 in
1910. I wonder if Dr. William P. might have been his son. However, from
your newspaper item, I'm wondering whether William B. was still living in
1910 when his nephew came to visit.

A Cassville Democrat Christmas greeting on the front page of the paper this
week was signed by Mrs. C.M. Robeson, Mrs. Curtis White, Mrs. Missie Pearl,
Mrs. Kathryn Mitchell, Means Ray, John P. Ray, Willard Burton, Jesse
Callaway, Billy Stephens, Doyle McCubbin and Burt Dilbeck.
Cassville's application for entrance into the Big-8 Football Conference was
denied this week because the Tri-County League disbanded after only one of
the schools, Sarcoxie, agreed to schedule games.
Thank you! That's a nice clue.

It is so important to put the names of people on the back of pictures and also dates and even places because there maybe family in the future who don't know who the people are in the picture.

Thank you so much for all of the "Years Ago In Barry County" articles.

It is probably more than you would want to tackle, but here goes:
I have done most of my own research on various family lines, but I have a few "brick walls" that I cannot seem to break down. Finally, I decided a professional researcher might be able to help. I am planning to start with the "brick wall" that bugs me the most - one of my great-grandparents.
Here are the known facts:
Jessie May / Jessie Mae Williams was born January 7, 1870.
She married James Wiley Williams in Lawrence County, MO.

Jane; What a perfect poem. When my Mother died, I found about 200 negatives
of pictures taken 1920's to 1950's. Had to find a photo studio that had the
equipment to develop these large negatives, some were 2 x 2 inches. I made
several booklet form copies and mailed out to any living relatives, they
would write the name, date etc. that they knew, mailed it back to me, then
I would let everyone know as many names as we all could f
