Blankenship is not a name I have focussed on, but, it is an important name in the history of Butler County KS, which is not TOO far from Clay County. I kept running across that name in the Walnut Valley Times on microfilm from the 1880s to 1920's at the historical society in El Dorado KS. I think Blankenship is a fairly uncommon name, so it might be worth your checking out. There is also a book called The History Of Rosalia Township, by a Borger, which mentions that name, again in the Butler County area.
