I'm not an expert on Harrison Co. history by any means, but I would think
there were very few whites there by 1838. The county was not created until
1845 (from Daviess Co., and Davies was created in 1836 from Ray Co.) So,
you will need to check records in both those counties for such an early
time period.
I looked quickly, but it appears the earliest CAIN in the Harrison Co.

Alexander is buried in Harrison Co., it is in an unmarke
On the Harrison Co website there is a list (only) of the heads of household
in the 1850 census. If you find your ancestor on that list, you could then
go to a library which has the census and find more info about him. There is
also a list on the Mercer Co site.

Hi Mimi -
The Zoar Cemetery is south of Cainsville, on the west side of a gravel road
which runs north and south. I believe the road marks the county line
between Mercer and Harrison Counties, and Zoar is in Harrison Co.
It is a fairly large cemetery, very well maintained, and with the markers
in very good condition. I have many relatives and ancestors buried there,
so I have been there a number of times in the last few years.
I don't know whether or not the cemetery has been indexed, but I do know

Looking for Sylvanus S. Brodbeck who married Matilda Gunn 2-15-1883 in Harrison Co. MO. Matilda's parents, Marquis and Martha Potter Gunn, lived in Bethany. Sylvaneus Brodbeck had 3 brothers (Jacob, John and George) in Daviess Co, Mo. in 1880.
This is a helpful tool, as Patti says, but keep in mind that it is filled
with errors....names are frequently misspelled, people are missed,
etc. Don't assume that if you can't find someone on the AIS indexes, they
aren't in the census where they're supposed to be. Example: I looked
forever for my SHEETS family in 1850...couldn't find them anywhere using
the AIS indexes (whether on fiche, or in the books). Finally did a page by
page search of the 1850 Holmes Co. Ohio census (after deciding they

Hi Everyone,
Genealogy research can be a fun but complicated endeavor. "Cool
Tools" can help you keep track of the records and sources you gather
while researching your family history. Stay organized, learn about your
surname. I am not advocating this website or advertising it for
commercial use. I found this information very useful so I wanted to
pass it on to you!

A good way to find a county is to go to www.vitalrec.com, then click on
state you want, then click on counties and then scroll down to line just
before all the counties are listed. It says "Follow this link to determine
what county a city is in". Click on this link and you can type in name of
town. I use this all the time and find it very helpful.

Have you tried the "AIS" (Accelerated Index System) available at the LDS
Family history Centers? This is on microfiche and it is a way to track
people that moved around because it is by date, then name. I just learned
about this recently and have already found it very helpful. It sure beats
reading all those census indexes. Good luck.
