This may be a stupid question to some.
How would one find a death date for somebody that would have died after
1891? I don't know the city only the county of Jefferson.
Thank you for any help or information you can give me.

My apologies to the list. I posted an incorrect name for a ledger
found at Jefferson College yesterday, I want to correct that name now,
as listed below.
I had to find my copies of the pages of the actual ledger in order to
get the CORRECT name, which "Resident Tax List Book" is incorrect.
The correct name is "Resident List of Lands Assessed for 1845". There
are columns that make it doubly important. Present Claimants; Original
Claimants or Patentee. Parts of section; etc.

This is a synopsis of a story told by a Jno. McDaniel to O.F. Jahn probably
in the early 1900's and reported in a Jefferson County newspaper by Madelyne
Roussin.
Publication date is unknown.
Adam House came to Jefferson County soon after the turn of the century (1801
or 1802). The thrifty German, decided to keep away from the more populous
eastern settlements in favor of the wilds of Missouri, then known as Upper
Louisiana. He considered an area around a fine spring, which the Indians had

Jeannie,
Another good source for Jefferson County genealogical information is the
Jefferson County Jr. College on Highway 21 just north of Hillsboro. They
have a good genealogical department and the courthouse has sent many of
their records to the college. They have all the marriage, birth, death
records from the 1800s and many from the 1900s. Of interest also, is their
microfilm copies of old newspapers. Some are fascinating.

Hi Chris,
I have occasionally seen others instances like this where a different county is listed than the county in which it was recorded. I think it sometimes has to do with the residence of the person performing the ceremony being a different county from in which the marriage was performed.
In this case the J.P./M.G. stated he married them in Jefferson [County], but certified in Washington County to their being married. If his residence was in Washington County, or he lived near the county line, he m
For whatever reason, this library has the original Jefferson County estate file of John Pyeatt/Pyatt/Piatt whose estate was administered 1827-1834. I do not know what other files might have been donated there - but - it's certainly worth the effort to look. My cousin found it quite by chance....the resource librarian was gone and the girl who was there had no access to the files. She offered to look at some that had been pulled out and not yet filed back...and, right there on top of the cabinet was 'Joh

So ... on LDS film 0966086 (Marriage records of Jefferson County, MO), I
found this record :
State of Missouri
County of Washington
August 24th AD 1871
This is to certify that on the 20th day of August, AD 1871, Mr. Jackson
Wells and Miss Elizabeth Miller were by me united in marriage ascending to
the Laws of God and of the state of Missouri at Jefferson, Missouri.
So what is a Washington County marriage record doing on a Jefferson County
microfilm? And there doesn't seem to be a Jefferson in Washington

Dear Janet,
Missouri had both an 1830 and an 1840 census. I could look for the families through my ancestry.com census image subscription if you know where they were in those years. I also remember seeing Paget's in early Missouri Jefferson/St Louis Co records (Collet's index, Catholic Church records, etc.) as I was trying to decide if any of them were Payet's. Marianne

Many times the marriages were recorded in the nearest courthouse, that is
why you may fine an estate settlements or a land recording in STRANGE and
far off places!!! We always have to think "outside the box" and get into
what would have been a "do able" for those people along ago. Also, a recent
article on Ancestry addressed this type of human error....the clerk just
plain made a mistake or got confused or wrote and "echo" from a previous
record. At least you
