once owned and operated "one of the finest hotels in the region." It was in Mt.

side of the courthouse.
Can anyone identify for me what might be in it's location today

Ross,
Thanks, I have walked the entire Mt. Vernon City cemetery, so I know
where it is and I'm sure that I can now find the museum, the golf
course, the log house and I remember where 174 is. I spent hours
finding a cemetery that was way out NE of Mt. Vernon, at the very end of
a road. Then I decided to try a different way back to Mt. Vernon. That
was fun. ;-), but finally, after winding all over the country I found
myself back at 174. If I remember correctly, 174 crosses 44 and goes to

Those bushwhackers were pretty horrible during the War. Our family has a
legend that my 2g-grandfather (John William Motley, 1842-1922) avoided
being killed by bushwhackers after being captured by the CSA and released
(minus his gun) by lying down next to a log and covering himself with leaves.
The bushwhacker stood on that very log, but didn't stumble across my
2g-grandfather and we descendants are here to tell the story.

Lloyd was the son of Bert Hood and Ona Gayer, grandson of William J. Hood

Does anyone on this site know anything about the building on the main street in Miller (maybe it was once a hotel) with the words "Neece" and "Undertaker" and maybe "Furniture" high up on the side?B You can still faintly read them, or you could 5-10 years ago.

Pat,
My husband and I were at Orange Cemetery last summer and I have pictures of 9 Hillhouse tombstones, including one for Robert, b. 23 Feb 1873, d. 22 Jan 1910.
Who was the wife of your Robert Hillhouse? I am looking for the Robert Clint Hillhouse that married Minnie Bell Phariss11 Sept 1895. Minnie was my husband's 2nd cousin, four times removed.

went to the Sanitorium and found her death date. Has anymore
information become available from there? They were going to make a
scrap book with a bunch of pictures.

I cringe to think of lost graves and would like to hope that it didn't

I took a photo for you of the building I believe you are talking about. It
just has the Morris and Leiman name on it. But we ask around to many old
timers and they knew of the Neece's and did not know if they had a place in
there building caskets. My mom remembers a man working out of the back of
that building building caskets. But she can not remember the name. We also
ran up to the Miller Memorial cem. where a lot of Neece's are buried. Did
not appear any of the grave had been decorated as of
