1. Re: Coll Town [1]
Our Town Coll Town- Coll Town - A long forgotten spot clustering around Clark Bayou, north of Escatawpa, might have been one of Jackson County's industrial beehives, if the combination of people and current events had not changed its destiny. The name of the place now an area of scattered homes off Mississippi 613 in the shadow of Mississippi Power Company plant Victor Daniel, was once Coll Town. But in view of its early reputation, It would have been more correctyly spelled, Coaltown. Until the ear

Go to this site, put in your surname, nothing else for now, press search. Names will come up, (and a city guide), but... look on the right side of page of each surname, click on top right button, then you will go to Gencircles. And to a surname in there system, I went to Hardy Creel, and left a message. I really liked the way it is setup. You can see who is researching who, and even leave a message, [or a correction] about ancestor. (I hope this site is free for a long time.) I wanted to know the earl

When I get to go down home, I always have Barq's, IN A BOTTLE. It loses something in the can. I agree, I tried to include our daughter in things I liked. Somethings she didn't care for, but at least she had the info to make a decision. I liked your reply. We did not fish the Pearl, we fished Wolf, Red Creek and the Leaf. The Leaf because my mother lived near it as a girl. Corp

Americus (04-09-88) No evidence remains of first county seat Mythology has its lost Atlantis. Jackson County has its lost Americus. Americus, located on the south side of Cedar Creek just east of what is now Old Americus Road, was the seat of county government for more than half a century. Yet, today there are no visible signs that it ever existed. Americus was the seat of Jackson County government from 1826 to 1870 when the courthouse was moved to Pascagoula because of the newly constructed rai

I subscribe to the Sun Herald and cut out the article on Pearlington because there was a picture of Logtown in it which brought back lovely memories. In the 1940s and 1950s, my Dad used to take me fishing on different branches of the Pearl River. We were from N.O. and would drive over with the Old Town canoe strapped to the roof of the Nash. Sometimes, we'd put in at Logtown. We'd arrive before dawn, unload, and paddle out on the river as the sun was coming up. It was magic. We'd spend the whole day fishing

I have lived in upstate NY for over 30 years now. We live in the country here, but nothing like I grew up in. the article brought back lots of great memories. I flew home to visit mother a few weeks ago. I am always amazed at the changes. I used to walk from the beach to the North end of Gulfport in less than an hour. Now it seems to take me

Are there any sources of historical information regarding Americus available on line, for those of us who are too far away to visit the library? I'm also very interested in Coll Town. I'm researching John and Harriet (nee Lewis) Robinson, enumerated on the 1850 & 1860 census in Americus, and on later census' in Moss Point.
