Hi Ann,
What is the address of website?
Fred
Thanks so much, Annette, for this great posting. Here is a bit more about Oakland College. A few of its old buildings are still in use on the Alcorn campus today. We drove through this past summer, and I took a few pictures which I can email you if you are interested. Also, on the Claiborne site is the story of the murder of Dr. Chamberlain.

Who was this J. C. HENDERSON and what was the maiden name of Sarah
A./Saraha?? I take it that she was the mother of the 14 yr old.
Thanks.

Just got this from a Cousin this AM. wanted to pass it on, thought some would like to hear this Voice from the past....the "Real" cause of the Civil War is still Mystery.....But We know for sure that it was NOT Freeing the Slaves......Very few Plantations in the South owned Slaves and by far the majority of the Slaves was held in the North.....and on this message from Our past. it is evidently clear....the Soldiers that fought for the South knew this to be TRUE.......gotta-go, take care, th

Below is the report of our state MSGenWeb Coordinator, Ellen Pack, regarding our recent Seminar on April 16 in Brandon, MS. Information about the 8 sessions are accessible from the web site listed at the end of the report. You will want to go there and check out some of the power point presentations and forms. It was an outstanding event for genealogists.

Recently I did some research at the Center for American History at the
University of Texas in Austin. In the Natchez Trace Collection there is
a file on Oakland College. In it was a 48 page handwritten history of
Oakland college, written on different sizes of paper and missing the
first 4 pages. Included in this history was a list of Alumni from 1833
to 1855, "taken from old original manuscripts & private papers." I do
not know if the list is complete. It did not include my
