I found the following: Natchitoches Parish, LA Mattie Small married J. Polk Woods, 22 Nov. 1893 Martha Small, b. 1876, f. George Small, b. 1847, TN, m. Sarah Small, b. 1856, LA. I have a William Raney (my gggrandfather). He was born in 1800 (in SC), but his wife Cyrena Tidwell was born in 1809. They were married in Jefferson County MS in Jan. 1829. There is only one Joshua Hammons in Jackson County in 1840. The census is located here: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ms/jackson/census/1840/pg0276.txt There are no Hammons listed on the 1850 or 1860 Census for Jackson County, MS. Jackson County is located on the MS Gulf Coast. There is one Hammon without the "s" on the 1860 for Jefferson. He is George who is listed as living in Rodney. Hope this helps. I checked Ancestry.com for Andrew Jackson Small. They have a Gene Pool Record showing Andrew Jackson Small b. 1837 Jackson, AL to George Washington Small and Elizabeth Raines. They also have an ancestry file submitted by bhargett@cityscape.net that shows Andrew Jackson Small b. 1836-1837 in Jackson AL married Emily Taylor Arnett July 9, 1865 in Marshall Tx, Died 9/2/1909.
