Thanks for researching for me. I don't know exactly where they lived. My info is from the census, however looking at the 1870 census index I see a William from Washington county who has a Greenville P.O. listed. He seems to be the only William from Washington county so I assume that is him. M

In the mercantile records I find a J. F. Hawkins in Leland in 1885-1887. In 1888 he is still listed and owns the Leland newspaper "Leland Record." 1889 a J. L. Hawkins owns a saloon in Leland.
The Leland history Book has a J. H. Hawkins who sold the Metropolitan Barber shop in 1913.

Here's what I have on James Frederick Hawkins and wife Samuella E. Knox Hawkins: they married on Dec. 31, 1876 at New Albany, Union county. They're listed on the 1880 Union county census. They went to Stella Landing where the town of Pinafore was on the Miss river. Four children were

I have talked with my friend in Leland. He tells me that between 1850 and 1870 there is a "grey" period without much documentation and he doesn't have anything on the Hawkins. If you have information about J. F. and his time in Washington County I would appreciate your sharing with me.

At a quick glance I don't find them on the Mercantile records for WashingtonBolivar Issaquena or Sharkey counties. In 1870 Washington was a much larger county. Sharkey came out of it in the 1870s and in 1919 Humphreys county was created from it and parts of some others. Can you give me a few names on either side

Does anyone know where the personal papers are for the Griffin family, or the plantation records? I'm searching for information about the slaves who lived at Magnolia, especially the family of Jacob and Phoebie (Phebie) Griffin.
Thanks,

Good morning,
Is there anyway to find out the names of the casualities from the 1878
yellow fever epidemic? I have family that was listed in 1870, but a
complete family, with the exception of my g-grandfather, Calvin Thomas
Stimage, was gone. He was living with the "Drone" family in the 1880 census
records (actually in Hinds County, now that I think about it).
