I found something interesting to me today when going back over notes (good to do now & then).B B Please bear with me on this.B It may bore most of you, but has me VERY excited.B John Goebel, where are you?
My Murphys came from Surry Co, VA via Franklin Co. NC.B An Isle of Wight Murphrey/Murphey apparently owned the land in present day Franklin NC where my family came from about the same time as my Simon (I) Murphy came of age around 1720 in Surry Co. VA.B Some of Simon's sons moved to Franklin Co. NC

Hi Sue,
I would be interested in administrating the MURPHY mailing list when you
hang up the mantle.
I currently admin a number of RootsWeb mailing lists so I am aware of the
requirement as well as being interested in the MURPHY name from my maternal
side.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Hi Sue,
Yes, I did the 67 DNA markers and haven't matched much to anyone at all (that I can determine).
Yes, it seems the Briggs are very connected with Simon Murphy of Surry Co. Apparently several were members of Albermarle/Lawnes Creek parish together. William and Mary Briggs 1736 christening of son Wm as example. Marmaduke Grussett is another name connected to both families a lot. I don't find any Baileys though.
I forgot to mention the Blackwater swamp area figures into connecting the IOW & Surry
I saw at least one name per surname in these lists. The DOUGLAS one was at the end.

Hi Francis,
I used to often confuse my William B. Murphey/Murphy with yours. Mine was
b. abt 1800 and died abt 1866, close in years. There's yet another William
B. Murphy/Murphey in NC & SC around those years.

Very interesting on those Monsterrat Murphys! especially to me being Arthur Murphy in 1678. I will follow that one up as it could be crucial to my research. I knew there was one somewhere at that time.
So Teige, Dermot, Owen, Richard and now Arthur in 1678 Monsterrat could be the same ones in Barbados. Of course those were common given names in those days, but Monsterrat is only an 11 mile long island.
