3. [MarinGenSoc-L] Genealogical Humor [1]
Dear Listmembers A friend sent me this and I thought you would all enjoy a bit of a break from more "serious" items. We all need a rest from research now and again. Lauren Lauren M. Boyd Listowner - MarinGenSoc-L ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A lady was trying to impress those at the party. "My family's ancestry is very old," she said. "It dates back to the days of King John of England." Then turning to a lady sitting quietly in a corner she asked condescendingly, "How old is your family, my dear?

7. [MarinGenSoc-L] A tip - hopefully it will help at least one person! [1]
At meetings several of you have asked from time to time if there were a way to print out a message on our web site without printing the routing information. The headers often does take more space than the message. I just discovered a way that is easier than what I had been doing: Mark the message you want to copy by dragging your mouse over it. Then go to the Edit menu and click Copy. Go to the File menu and click New. This opens up an empty window. Go to Edit menu and cllick Paste to copy the
8. [MarinGenSoc-L] posting obits online [1]
Hi all, After the presentation at last Saturday's computer interest group meeting about posting obituaries to GenConnect, I posted several Marin County obituaries that I had at home in my files. It was easy and now the surnames mentioned in these obituaries, names I am researching, are included in the surname index for others around the country to find. If someone finds one of my names, they can respond and I will be notified by email; maybe I will find a new contact researching the same names. I en

Hello the list! Got a message from my Boyd list alterting that Ancestry.com has opened the 136 volumes of the DAR records for ten days... just don't know what part of the ten days we are in! I can thank Cal Boyd for his suggestion: visit the site, search on the surname(s) you are seeking and copy and paste what you find to your word processor for later reading and review. Took me less than an hour to access all 693 Boyd records. I am having a bit more trouble getting the 1407 Stewart records, but I

11. [MarinGenSoc] Your Input - Vision Workshop! [1]
Hello all, Lauren and I are compiling the input from attendees at the Visions Workshop. The material is fascinating and we will be sharing it with you all once we have it all written up comprehensively! The purpose of the Workshop was to give us a chance as a group to listen to each other... to hear of the important milestones and obstacles in the history of our group, to take time to think of what has changed over the years and to try to "peek" a bit into our future as a group. 16. [MarinGenSoc] obit posting [1]
Thanks, Kay. It really IS easy, folks, to post obituaries to our GenCon site. I would suggest, however, that you check the surname index first just to be sure the obituary hasn't already been posted. Even so, if another obit has been posted but yours has more information of benefit to the genealogical researcher, just email your post to Jana Black and she can add it to the already posted obit. That way there are 2 posts in 1. Jana's email address is on the page for your convenience. I am SO excite
