Hi Ron: The Book is titled "History of the Cherokee Indians" by Emmet Starr.
There is a list of teacher for 1858 & 1859 and then after the War Between the
States, from what I read, the Cherokee Nation was reorganized and thirty-two public schools were provided on March 1, 1867. The locations were:
Delawere District: Delaware Town, Sequoyah's New Place and Snell's
Saline District: Requa, Cul-car-law-skees and Little Spring Creek
Going Snake District: Tyners, Rabbit Trap, Barren Fork and Baptist Mission
Dear List,
Evidently I have missed a post or two and this post really has my interest
up. Would someone explain it to me.
Thank You
Victoria

Hi list , just want to share an experience we had trying to get my husbands
grandmas birth certificate in Va. she was a native descent person and my
husband was denied access to her records because she was " born over 100
years ago (1897) and only her children were allowd access to the records He
would have to wait until they were all dead until he would be allowed access
to them." Her name was Clark and was a mix of Cherokee, Dakota and maybe
Monocan. good luck Chris
Dear Folks,
I am new to the list and am wondering if anyone is
working on the ARTIS-WALKER family of Montgomery County,
Maryland?
My Ggggrandfather was Stephen ARTIS. He married
Mary E./Ellen/Eleanor WALKER in Montgomery County, MD
in 1829. By 1835 they had moved to Noble County, Ohio,
where my Grrgrandmother, Emily/Emeline ARTIS was born.
Family traditions says that Emily was 3/4 Cherokee, but
I have not been able to find Stephen or any ARTIS on any
of the Cherokee Rolls or Lists. WALKER is a comm
Dear Cathie,
It's Karen Carter again about Laura Thompson. I noticed that you listed two
Thompsons as teachers in the Cherokee Nation in 1858 and 1859. Were the
teachers Native Americans? Anglos? (Of course, I cannot help but wonder if
one or both of the Thompsons you list (Honey Creek, 50 students, James L.
Thompson, 1858, and Echo Bend, Nancy Thompson, 1859) could be Laura
Thompson's parents?!)
Thanks again!

attended
and many others from other nations came to help us send these ancestors on
their long awaited journey in to the Spirit world.

Victoria, Yes you sent the list. Unfortunately the name SHROVER which was
suggested to me for research has not been put on line. If you have the
complete list, could you look for that name, if not I guess I just wait and
recheck from time to time. Thanks for trying at least.
