The First Courthouse for Orange County, NC
At the beginning of the formation of Orange County, the courthouse was
not located in Hillsborough, as it is today, there was no Hillsborough in
1752.
The first courthouse was located in the present day Alamance County town
of Haw River, NC.

The First Orange County Courthouse
It is possible that the court met in KIMBROUGH's place of business rather
than in a separate courthouse. Useage such as this were common while
courthouses were under construction. That would not have been consistent
with the September 1752 court directive for KIMBROUGH to have the
courthouse "fit for the Reception of his Majesties Justices at their next
December 1752 sitting".
SAUNDERS' reference to "buildings" of similar construction suggests that

Seeking information on the family of Daniel NOAH born abt
1799 in Orange County, NC. He died in Alamance Co, NC 10 Apr
1876. His first wife was named Sallie. They had 3
children - Jordan Cain NOAH who married Sarah EVERHART,
Louisa NOAH who married John SHARP and Cornelia NOAH who
married Frederick WILLIAMS. I am trying to find out Sallie's
maiden name. If may have been HUMPHREY or FOX. Any info on
this Sallie would be appreciated. Also any information on
the parents of Daniel would be appreciated.

A traveler, John SAUNDERS who kept a journal, was at Pine Ford during the
September 1753 Orange court, he spent the night at KIMBROUGH's ordinary.
Neither the courthouse or the Ordinary had been completed. There was still
nearly a year left on the contract for the household and jail. John
SAUNDERS worked for a company with a store in Suffolk, Virginia. He was in
North Carolina to meet an associate in Granville County. Not finding him at
Granville County, he was told that he may be at Orange Court

Caswell, Chatham, Orange, Person, parts of Guilford, Lee, Randolph, and

David SMALL Jr. and Rachel MILLER.
married 9 April 1851 Rockingham Co. to Martha Jane BRINCEFIELD born 1
May 1827 Caswell Co. NC...daughter of Thomas BRINCEFIELD/BRINSFIELD and
Nancy McINTYRE...died 18 June 1892.
Both Nathaniel and Martha Brincefield SMALL are buried in Pine Hill
Cemetery, Burlington, NC. They sold their family farm in Rockingham Co. in
October 1880 and settled in Haw River, Alamance Co. NC
Are pre-1849 records relating to the part of Orange County that became
Alamance retained by Orange, or Alamance County?
