Hi Everyone,
The book, Lest We Forget, is a survey of the cemeteries in Avery County
that was compiled by Martha A. Pyatte in 1975. This book is normally
available from the Avery County Museum, but the existing stock has been
sold out for nearly a year. Plans are being developed to republish the
book, but it is not yet known when a new edition will be available.
For a one week period, ending 7 July 2001, I will do lookups in the
book. Please send your query directly to me, not the Mail List. Plea
Hi Everyone,
While I was at the Avery County Heritage Fest, I bought the Chamber of
Commerce Map of Avery County. I contacted them and obtained permission to
use the map on our Web page:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncavery/averymap.htm
This is a large file (269 KB). I tried making it smaller, but detail was
lost at the smaller resolution.
The search engines for Avery County information have been updated:

Keep well.

Hi Everyone,
We just got back from our trip down to North Carolina and Tennessee, and
were able to take in the Heritage Fest. Newland was blessed with a
beautiful sunny day on the day of the Fest, although the wind was a little
fresh on occasions. Some of the exhibitors might think "fresh" is an
inappropriate description of the wind, as they frequently had to chase down
their pictures and papers. The atmosphere among those attending was most
cordial, and lots of information was being swapped at al
Donna: Do you have any information on David Lenoir's brother, Ervin
Carpenter. He is my husband's direct ancestor and had two children that I
know of: Mary Jane and Todd. I have not been able to find a word about him
after 1860 so I have no idea who he married. I believe she could have been
Native American. He just drops off the face of the earth - perhaps in the
Civil War. Audrey

Does anyone know of this person? She was from Avery County. All I know
is that she had a sister Nancy Victoria Clark and a brother Luke, and a
sister named Narkey. She was born around 1885 and married a Winters. I
believe if I can find any of her family, I'll be able to find Nancy Clarks
parents names. Thanks
Can anyone help Cathy?

Hi Everyone,
You may have seen that the former GenConnect Boards have been combined with
the FamilyHistory.com Message Boards. This reduces the number of boards
for Avery County from eight to one. By having just one Message Board, it
should be easier to find queries, and to post your own genealogical
question related to Avery County.
The URL for the new Message Board is:
