Don't know if this will help but in Hathaway's NC Genealogical Register Vol 2 p54 there is a will of Abraham Harrell of Gates Co, NC date 3/18/1799. It lists his heirs as wife Mary, daughters Winea Moran, Fanny Alpin and sons, David, Charles, Abraham and Theophilus.

I have posted this query in one form or another on several sites over the

I, and members of my extended family, have been trying to identify the
parents of my ggggrandfather, Bryant Boon. We know a fairly substantial
amount about him after he left North Carolina and went to Tennessee and then
Kentucky. He is buried in Graves County, Kentucky and his marker indicates

Hello to the Bertie List:
I want to join in the chorus of those singing the praise of our
List leader. If one wishes to see an example of how hard Virginia
works to provide information to this list, just look at her recent
posting of the 1798 tax list and judge for yourself how hard that
was to read.
Not to have some genealogy content in my message, I want to pass
on an item that was recently posted to another list and make a brief
comment afterwards about a subject that caused me confusion for

Can anyone out there give me any information on P.T. HENRY, who was a state
legislator of Bertie County in the late 1700s? My GrGrandfather David Wescot
HENRY was borned in Bertie County around 1817-18, so I am just a little
curious as/to the possibility that P.T. HENRY could be a relative. I don't
know what the initials stand for, as that is the way that he was listed.
Thanks, Asa

Do any Bertie Co, North Carolina, USA, Nichols/NIcholson descendants have more info on Josiah Nichols of 1770s in Windsor that they can share to help the Nichols group help us? Josiah Nichols apparently went up to Norfolk Co, Va when he was invited by the sheriff to leave Bertie Co because of his Tory sympathies. We have his son as Isaiah Nichols, layman at old St Brides Parish, and Isaiahs son as Josiah Nichols again who md first Eliz Smith and then Harriet Hall in Chowan Co, NC in 1850s. Thanks for

Thanks for the file, and yes I remember you. Could you do me another
favor and send me the Pritchard file again. I never could get it to open.
The Morris one opened just fine, so I am ready to try the Pritchard one

you.

Hello Bertie County researchers,
I'm just back from a month's trip that included research in TN and NC.
My ggg grandfather, Edmund Blount COOPER first appears (or my first record
of him) as a single head of household, age 16-26 in the 1790 census of
Bertie Co. NC. He married Jinette PHILLAW in Bertie Co in 1799 and appears
in the 1800 census of Bertie Co with a white female his age category,
presumably Jinette, his new wife and an older white female, (almost
certainly Jinette mother), and 9 slaves. In 18

The list of Melungeon names attracted much attention, so I will try to

Indian/White or Indian/African American. Of course, there can be a mixture
of all three. What has attracted so much attention to the Melungeons over
the years is their origin. There are many theories. One that ties into our
area of Bertie County is that they are the remnants of the Los

I was so glad to read your note. The Blackbeard Story is one that I keep
meaning to get on-line for Bertie County.

also....including "Blackbeard's gift to Penelope (to whom he was paying

And did you know Blackbeard's first mate (crippled in a drunken spree on
