Hello, I am researching the HILL family of Carteret and Onslow Counties. I am the ggg-granddaughter of John W. Hill. I know he was born in 1805 and died in 1845. He married Charity Moore, May 23, 1832, in Carteret County. However, I do not have much more information to go on regarding any siblings or his parents. I do h

Evelyn,
Yes, not only did Thomas Arthur list his parents as Alvin Piver and Susan Arthur on his marriage license, his mother Susan Arthur was living with him and Mary in 1910. I can find no record of Alvin Piver (or Piner). There is no marriage record or bastardy bond, nor do I see him in the Carteret Co. censuses.

I checked the article (#290, p. 134) on Daniel Henry Lockhart by Bette Parsons Hartsell in the Heritage of Carteret County, Vol. II, 1983. It refers to only two wives, first Mary Turner and second Prudence Stowe (1816-1654). It names 11 children "born of these two marriages": Nancy Ann, Rebecca, Sidney, Edith, Kather

This post mentioned names of Carteret people who moved to Florida in the early 1900's. I can add some names to this list. I remember going with my folks to visit cousins in Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor in the 1950's. These were the Tom Willis family, Elwood Willis, and Doc Whitehurst.
Hello again,
Searching for my Native American roots. I'm trying to find my Cherokee (NC)
roots.
The oral history is that Mary Sampson (1774-1850) left the tribe and
married a Whittington.
Another story has it that the Whittington brothers left the tribe,
Anglicized their names, (one taking Whittington, another Winston/Windsor).
The first Whittingtons I have (in Beaufort County, NC) are:
David Whittington (abt 1798 > after 1860)
Washington Whittington (abt 1829 - ??)
Parker Whittington (abt 1811 > after
