Mary Lou,
This may seem redundant but do you have access to the earliest Chowan County, NC census? I'm thinking the first one in 1790. If you haven't checked that one or you do not have access to it, I will be happy to look it up for you in our library here in Edenton. I have a copy of the 1850 census but it
Dear List,
Sally Koestler has put a lot of information about the Bishops, Powells,
Gordons, and the Perquimans County Francis Jones' family on Sally's Family Place
during the past few days, using some quotations from the story by Jack Powell in
recent issues of The Poor Town News.
She was able to answer a couple of the questions I had sent out to the
Mailing Lists a few months ago, such as the location of the graveyard where some of
my ancestors are buried.
Sally's site is at: <http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/ncchowan/2003-07/1059349525 Date: Sun, 27 Jul2003 19:45:25 EDT From:
Dear Mailing List,
I've received a great many emails over the past few days concerning the
"Early North Carolina Settlers, 1700s-1900s" CD that I emailed about last wek, and
I think many people plan to add it to their own collection of genealogical
resources.
I learned from one person that it was also available on GenealogyLibrary.com
as part of a membership there.
One person asked if all the information I had copied off the internet from
the publishing company's web site was actually on the CD. (
As a guess: one marriage may have been to allow them to travel together with
propriety and the other a family celebration, also, possibly one ceremony
was civil and the other religious.
I have no information on the lineage.

Dear Group,
I've had various emails today asking what the "Settlers" has on it and how to
order it. Here it is (below). I've copied info. off the internet. Someone
asked me about the counties. It has all the counties including some that existed
before the regular counties were formed such as Albemarle. It also has a small
section on Western NC Settlers.
The main thing I found that was a probelm was that a person might be listed
20 or 30 times, - say someone like Thomas Jones who was a lawyer, and per
Quite possible your 1770 William was born in Chowan.
The first of that name is seen in land transaction dated 1704. This Wm. had
wife, Martha. He died 1716, will date 5 Apr. Chowan naming wife Martha, sons
William & John, daughter Mary Earlys, Rose Wynns and Elizabeth Bush. Ex was
wife Martha. Tests: Wm. Crawford, John Smith. The will abstract can be found
in Vol I of Hathaways Hist. & Gen. Register by J.R.B. Hathaway. Throughout
Hathaway you will find a number of generations of Williams.
