As a guess: one marriage may have been to allow them to travel together with propriety and the other a family celebration, also, possibly one ceremony was civil and the other religious. Dear Group, I've had various emails today asking what the "Settlers" has on it and how to order it. Here it is (below). I've copied info. off the internet. Someone asked me about the counties. It has all the counties including some that existed before the regular counties were formed such as Albemarle. It also has a small section on Western NC Settlers. Quite possible your 1770 William was born in Chowan. The first of that name is seen in land transaction dated 1704. This Wm. had wife, Martha. He died 1716, will date 5 Apr. Chowan naming wife Martha, sons William & John, daughter Mary Earlys, Rose Wynns and Elizabeth Bush. Ex was wife Martha. Tests: Wm. Crawford, John Smith.
