So many of NC and SC families migrated to Georgia because of the
liberal land lotteries I thought this might benefit some of you. It's
an amazing addition to the Georgia online records.

Colin Shaw (son of Angus, born 1720, Isle of Jura, Scotland, came to America
about 1747) married Sallie Marron McRaney. Found a monument for Colin in
Cumberland County, but no grave for his wife. Does anyone know if she was
buried at the Cross Creek Cemetery, also? Did she marry Colin in Scotland or
NC?
Was their son John Shaw born in Jura or NC? Where is he buried?
If anyone else is researching this line or a line that ties into these Shaws,
please let me know.

This is a wonderful "toy" from the BoatFolks List and is a big help in
visualizing the proximity of counties. To highlight more than one
county on the map just hold down the control key and left click each
additional county. I tried it with every county in PA that I had come
across in researching my father's family. Not being overly familiar
with PA counties I was surprised to see that all the counties I
clicked formed one solid highlighted area.

I am looking for any information on a Furmage, Furmidge, Firmage, etc. family reunion that may be in October in the Sampson County area where our family is originally from. I would also be interested in anyone with information on the Robert Furmage line that had 4 children , 2 boys and 2 girls. Our line is the son Robert. But interested in all of the lines. All inquiries welcome.

Try www.familysearch.com. This is the Mormon Church genealogy website. It
contains, among other things, the Social Security death index.
Good luck,

That was around the time when the Reed Gold Mine in Cabarrus County (Near
Charlotte) was discovered. As the story goes, a Fayetteville man first
identified the gold there. It spawned a rush of sorts in the piedmont.

If you live near Cumberland County you would go to the courthouse and to the
Register of Deeds Office on the 1st floor. The Vital Statistics is a part of
that office. Other than that I don't know. Maybe someone else would have
another suggestion.

Vickie,
Thanks for the response regarding Thames/Tims. Yes, I am aware of the April
2003 Thames/Tims organization and reunion meeting but thanks for mentioning
it.
I have several records of Thames-Tolar marriages.
A Nancy Tolar married Thomas Thames b 1765-84, s/o Samuel Thames b ca 1745
Bladen Co NC.
A Nancy Tolar b 1820-25 was listed in the 1840 census of Anderson Co SC same
page as Jesse Thames b 1810-20. No more info on either.

Dear Thames, Tims, Timms Researcher,
A combination reunion and organizational meeting is being planned for April
4 & 5 2003 in Gastonia, NC.
The purpose of the meeting on 4 April is to form an organization of
descendants and researchers of the surnames Tims, Timms, Thames, Timbs,
Thanes and any other variant spelling of these names. The purpose of the
organization is to share family information, produce a newsletter, provide
query service and establish a pernament depository of research on these
families
You say a "look-up" singular, but you mention 4 distinct type of records
followed by an, etc. That sounds plural. Perhaps more specifics would help
someone decide if they are willing to help. Also you should be specific
about approximate dates and about the name or names that you are
researching. Knowing more about kin is also helpful in sorting out the
material. You often find records on two different individuals with the same
name and living about the same time, so knowing more helps find what you are
Gosh Franklin,
You really got your pants in a wad over a novice request (smile)! Why not
take the high road next time? C. Ward might even help YOU down the road.
Adios,

Hi, Does anyone know why I am getting Roots web messages today with
attachments to them. It makes not sense to me. For example this message
had an attachment.
When I open the attachment it is identical to the message itself. Very
puzzling. My up-to-date virus program did not detect any virus or worm.
Can someone help.
