Currituck County came to be when the huge Albemarle County split into 4
parts, but that was some years after Carolina was split off from Virginia.
In other words, yes, it used to be part of Virginia (when all of NC was
Virginia), but not as Currituck County. The Carolina colony was split off

The boundry line between VA and NC was unclear until the early 1700s.
It is not uncommon to find records in both Currituck County, NC and
Lower Norfolk & Princess Anne Counties, VA. I always check all three
when researching individuals in the 1600s and early 1700s.
