This was sent to me by a gentleman on the Franklin Co. NC list. Now it
makes sense to me how Franklin Co. NC connects to Maury & Marshall Co.
TN, other that just my family.

Mr. Murphy, you may or may not know that there was a surveyor, William
Christmas of Bute and then Franklin County, who laid out the village of
Raleigh which is now the capitol city of NC. This William Christmas, in
the early
part of 1800s, was appointed Surveyor General of TN and many families
followed
him to Williamson Coun
Hi P. Forister,
Here is my Freeman Line, I go back from here also, but not in Franklin

Maybe you connect to one of these. Hope so.

Does anyone know if Rootsweb is doing some kind of server maintenance
today? Haven't been able to access my records by html or ftp today.
Hope they didn't get mad at me loading too many megabytes and kick me
off. The "freepages" used to be unlimited webspace.

I wish more people in Franklin Co. put information from there on this list
like Mark Murphy. Thanks
I am looking for information about Spencer Brown and Mary (Polly) Debnam.
Family tradition is that Spencer's parents died young and he was bound out
to a uncle on his mother's side and it is thought that his mother was a
Foster. They married in Franklin Co. 13 Dec. 1821 or 27. The copy of the
bond I got was hard to decide if it was 21 or 27. They moved to Tennessee
before 1829, first to Maury Co. and then to
Please disregard if you aren't interested. Some of these folks settled
in and had kin in middle TN. -Mark

Found your descendancy chart of Freeman very interesting. I have an
ancestor, Adam Hawkins, who married
Sarah Freeman at Franklin Co,NC in
1825. She was born in 1807. Can you find her in your chart somewhere?
If
so, I would appreciate any information
you may have.
The moved to TN in about 1830 and then
to MS in about 1840. Meantime they
had 3 boys and 2 girls. Thanks

Anyone know if the James Collins (Jr.) listed here is the same one in
Marshall Co. TN? He and a G.W. Collins in Marshall had land dealings
and apparent family ties to Parker Murphy in Franklin Co. and Wm. B.
Murphy in Marshall/Maury Cos. Also Parker, Bird & James Murphy were
buyers in James Collins Sr estate 1820; James Collins (jr) was a
security for James Murphy as Constable in Franklin Co. Just grasping
for straws.

Many folks have been asking me where I get information. Here are some
resources I've compiled. These are available at your local Mormon
Family History (Center) Libraries (FHL) to borrow. It will take me
years to go through all the microfilm I want to see. I've included a
summary of county formations to start with (let me know if my notes are
wrong). If anyone uses these, I'd appreciate any Murphys or Crews you
find.

Cheers. Much more to come. For those following the Bass family,

Of note are the W.L. Murphy ads in one of these. Also, James Murphy was
publisher of one of these in the late 1850s timeframe, I believe.
