Would never have guessed Eleanor Roosevelt had roots in our area. According

Hello All,
Per Martha's request, I am sending an excerpt from the introduction to

Am looking for some information on James Madison Perry who was mostly called
by Madison. He married a Bright, her name is either Sarah or Jane or perhaps
Sarah Jane?
The lady researching this family thinks he may be from Pitt Co.
He had an Uncle Shadrack Perry. They appear in Macon Co. AL and Madison
Perry was mentioned in guardianship papers as being the brother in law of
James Bright (the son of Alexander Bright) (1846)
A Nathan G. Bright was mentioned and in his will of 1843, says he has no

Pat had a query on the Barrow family the other day. In some of the
information I copied at the DAR is a handwritten copy of the John Barrow
Bible. This is the John Barrow who married Elizabeth Herring daughter of
Simon Herring. Elizabeth married 2nd Benjamin Sutton as his 3rd wife. THe
copy is not easy to read especially some of the dates. The information was
found in the Thomas Dawson DAR file along with several other items. Will
get it typed and posted soon.

There is one word to describe transcribing all those court records -
tedious - yet they are so important to researchers especially in Dobbs Co,
a burned county. Have to admit, the Civil Action papers are far more
interesting. Our thanks to Sue and Christine for taking on this project
and to Patty for formatting them for the web - an equally tedious task.
The IGI also has James Wiggins married Carolyn Fields and had"
Major Wiggins 26 Dec. 1871
W. Dave Wiggins born 23 June 1873
Mary Wiggins born 7 May 1884
Benjamin Ricks Wiggins born 1 Jan. 1896
James Wiggins born 11 Oct, 1891
all born in Lenoir.
I have a James Wiggins born about 1832 (by census) son of Aaron Wiggins. Is
this the same James?
Do any of the Field researchers know this family?

For those of you who use netscape, you have not been able to see some of
the files on at least LEnoir Co in the past few days especially the COurt
files. The problem has finally been figured out and fixed and I can recover
from my breakdown.
The Boards are still not showing the last postings and not sure what that
problem is but appears to be with ROOTSWEB.

Spent some time looking through copies of IGI I had received a few years
ago, before I knew much about the Wiggins or Lenoir County.
It has Jesse Michael Wiggins married Smitha Mooring and had Nancy Susan
Wiggins born 1879 and married Mark Randolph Radford in 1903.
Fannine Ludlow Wiggins born 29 May 1888
Martha Wiggins born 20 Nov. 1891.
Surely there are more children, if these are correct, as they are so spread
out?
Does anyone have more information on this family, and do you know if it is
correct or no

Hi, Trish:
I have heard and read the term 'Free Trader' applied to women and it was
usually indicating that they had the right to buy, own, and sell property of
all types in their own name. A document or statement usually had to be made
before a court or legal office by the husband, guardian, or next friend for
the wife/woman to be so considered. (A 'next friend' is some/any male of
legal age that the woman trusts and whom she chooses to speak in her behalf.
