Dear Friends on the NCNEWHAN-L List, I am searching for information, biographical or other about an early resident on Wilmington and perhaps also Brunswick County. This man is a Benjamin Smith. He was an early governor of North Carolina, perhaps while it was an English Colony, and the little town of Smithville, later known as Southport in Brunswick County, NC was named for him in its early times. I believe the New Hanover library will do look-ups for you. My mother has sent several names to them for look-ups and received quite a bit of information. Trying calling and asking for Genealogy, I think it is also known as the North Carolina Room. Hello, I am searching for information about Elizabeth "Betsy" (King) Craft. She was named as a daughter in the Will of her father, James King, SR dated 22 October 1836. I believe that Elizabeth was previously married to George Shepard who died prior to 6 February 1827. On this date Thomas Foy was named Administrator of George Shepard's estate. I am looking for a gravesite for an Alsey Sellers and a Cynthia Milliner Sellers. Names of either of their parents would be helpful but they are also elusive. I have Alsey traced back to the 1850 census #047 --7th District. Johnston Co, NC Can't find him as a child. If some kind soul is going to the New Hanover County Library in Wilmington - would they be willing to make a "good ole Georgia Gal" happy by looking in the newspaper microfilm for an obituary for my - BENJAMIN WILLIAMS - b.abt.1841 and died sometime late 1881 to late 1883? His wife was Margaret C. Williams and children I am sure of were --- Edna Roby Henry Thomas & Stephen E. Williams. This obit would the nicest Christmas gift I could receive. May Santa be as good to each of you.
