One of the most difficult genealogical books to find is a 1970's publication
by Elizabeth McKoy called, "Early Wilmington, Block by Block from 1733 On.
This book eluded me for almost ten years until I recently purchased a copy
from a rare book dealer in North Carolina. It was printed in a very small
edition, the author subsequently passed away without children and the book
was never reprinted, making it a challange to locate. I contacted the Lower
Cape Fear Historical Society to see if they had cop
My grandparents were:
Mary Elizabeth Williams, b. May 30, 1862, d. July 28, 1916
+ Williams Ankrum Canady, b. February 2, 1859, d. March 10, 1909.
I need information on Mary Elizabeth Williams' mother and father.
Mary and her husband are buried at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Sneads
Ferry, Onslow County, NC. From newspapers clippings, I know that Mary had
the following siblings: Naomi, James, Sarah, Martha, Hattie, Minnie, Annie,
and Eli.
Mary's tombstone is inscribed "Mary E. Williams Canady,
