I am looking for tombstone inscription of Isaac HOLDEN, who died in
Orange Cty., NC about 1820. Does anyone know how I could find out what
cems. were active at that time and where the stones might have been
transcribed. I'm hoping to find something I can search from CA. Isaac
owned land on the Enos River.
Is anyone else researching the following lines:
HOLDEN, BUFFALOE /Buffalo,Buffalow etc.,

I now know what you are talking about "twirling candles". I don't think
they are Moravian, specifically. My grandmother had several when I was a
child. The one I recall most had an angel at the top. The angel was
perched on a sort of pivot that included small metal pieces shaped like a
fan (imagine a windmill on its side) and had four metal "ribbons" flowing
down. As the air heated by the candles rose and caused the "fan blades" to
move, the four ribbons would lightly strike four small bells
This is not part of my family, but here is what I have on

In my continuing quest to identify the ancestors of William Woods (born
Ireland 1695 - died Orange County NC 1785) it seems he was buried in the
Little River Presbyterian Church graveyard. Evidently the church was
organized in 1761 by a Rev John White and is described (in 1905) as
follows: "This historic old church stands between the North and South
Forks of Little River, in Orange County, about eight miles northeast of
Hillsboro."
My question are two: Does this church still exist? If so, has anyone

I asked a local Moravian minister about "twirling candles". He did not know
what you meant except that perhaps you were referring to the beeswax candles
with the red or white paper ruff at bottom. No other faith uses these.
Moravia was a province in Czechoslovakia in Europe. The people from the
area were called Moravians. Bohemia was the other major province. It
was quite common for the German groups from Germany and the Czech groups
to settle near or with each other. The cultures were similar even though
not exactly the same. The Germans fondly refer to the Bohemians as
"Dumb Bohemians". No offense meant. This was such a shock to me when I
first married into a German family in Central Texas. It took over 25
years to convi

Looking for the family information on Christian and Henry Morris, Sr.
Christian Morris were in Orange County, NC early as 1755 and in 1779 he was
in Randolph Co, NC, Henry Morris Sr was also in Orange Co NC by 1755, died
in 1801 there in Orange Co, NC. I believe this Morris families came from
