For those looking for genealogy related graphics and backgrounds, I have a new
site of my creations. If you can't find anything you like there I also have
listed 17 sites (currently and still looking) that have graphics just for
genealogy pages. You can find it at
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Woods/5503/
There is also a mailing list to join, for when new graphics are added or a new
graphic site is found. All ideas, suggestions and comments are welcomed.

According to the 1870 census of Transylvania County, my ancestor
Alfred Fletcher, then 14 yrs old, was living in the household of James
Lyons, then 54 yrs old. Can anyone tell me why Alfred Fletcher was in
this household?
The 1880 census of Transylvania shows Alfred living with his wife and
mother. I cannot find him anywhere on the 1860 census. ( He wouldn't
be on censuses after 1880 because he died in 1885.) How did he arrive
at the Lyons household? --- gmf
GENEALOGY PERSONAL HOME PAGES
Hi! I just added a page which is dedicated to all researchers who have a
genealogy site on the WEB plus for those looking for a certain surname. This
site lists surnames & genealogy personal home page links of those who are
providing online information for their ancestors. I am hoping this page will
let people searching for a particular surname find web pages with a matching
surname without going through multiple search engines or webrings. Y

If anyone has any information regarding Azariah Hensley I would be ever so
grateful. I believe that he would have been born around 1812 in North
Carolina. The place of birth is unknown. His father may have been George
Hensley. I have no other information on George. Azariah may have been
married to Peggy Smith and Polly Ann ? Hensley. They had 12 children
including a son named William Hensley who was born in Jackson County,
Tennessee on January 14, 1849. I do not have a great deal of information but
Renee, I believe it is a home mainly for the retarded and I believe it is
still there. I had a teacher in school who had a Down's Syndrone child that
went there in the late 50's or early 60's. Later a neighbor of mine had a
mildly retarded son who worked there taking care of the children. He is not
there any more but as I have a retarded son of my own and these were my first
contacts with retarded children and it helped me in dealing with acceptance
and moving on. My son lives at home and is a joy. I'

Betty,
The sources for my information are numerous, but one of my favorite
resources for this particular info is "The History of NC" by Hugh T. Lefler,
PhD. Vol. I. Also, I am a lifelong resident of NC and have studied NC
history for a long time. It is a very interesting topic indeed.
Please note that I never stated there were settlements this early in NC,
only scattered settlers. According to the above named book, the following is
a timeline of NC History.

The 1790 census of Anson Co., NC, indicates that Robert JARMAN (or
GERMAN) may have been survived by two sons born after 1774; these are in
addition to his known sons named Emory, Robert and William. I checked
the Anson Co. deed index and find no names I can't account for. I really
would like to learn more about these additional sons and would
appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks to all who responded to my Goose Creek problem. The one I am
looking for turns out to be in Grayson Co, Va. This is in southwestern VA,
just across the boarder from Ashe Co, NC.
Thanks Again,

Hi,
My name is Sharon and am quite new to this list, and am hoping for some
help. I have not done any work in looking up wills before, so hope someone
can point me in the correct direction.
I found a book at our State Historical Society titled "North Carolina
Wills: A Testator Index, 1665-1900".
There are quite a number of Wills in this index that I am interested in
having copies of. Now my question is, is there a central location where
these wills can be found ? Then does anyone know of someone can look
