I can't answer as to whether North Carolina has a death index, but I do know that they started issuing death certificates in 1913. Some counties kept death records before 1913, but it was at their own discretion. Pender and Duplin counties did not keep death records until 1913. I have two ancestors who died in 1912....if they could've just held on a few more months... Brenda
