I agree with Dave, this was not a good message. I am very happy that
people do the things that James Silver has done. I have learned a lot and
have even found some missing family members because people take the time to
put together something to share with us all. It is hard work to do so
because, after all, not everyone types 100+ words per minute like me. I
really appreciate the hard work some people go through to put their family
lines in an email message to share with the rest of us. I hope that

I saw a map the other day in Rand McNally's (sp?) World Historical Atlas
that showed that all land west of North Carolina to the Mississippi River
was claimed by North Carolina. A note said that even though the counties
of Tennessee were not part of NC officially, according to the British, it
was governed by NC royal governors.
I do know that Cocke Cnty, TN, has gone from NC to TN to NC and back to TN
in the past two hundred years.

Kannapolis, NC, is where? Which newspaper would have carried an obituary
of someone who died this past July 1999? What library would carry that
newspaper that would be able to get me the obituary?

Would anyone have the 1900 Buncombe Cnty, NC, census on CD? If so, would
you mind looking up the following family group:
DAVIS
William (father)
Olgia (daughter)
Joseph/Joe (son)
Hattie (daughter)
There may be other children and I hope I can find the wife's name from this.
Both copies in two of my rural region's LDS Family History Libraries are
missing.
Would appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thank you.

Valerie,
You will probably have to wait another month. I have learned thus far that
you should always send a money order not a check and send them one request
per envelope. It takes them slower if it is a check or if more than one
request at a time, but it takes them a long time, nonetheless.

Hi, List!
I noted the George RICHARDS name mentioned in the posted item below. That is a family surname I have yet to research. I have a gggm Nancy RICHARDS (1803-1844) who married George LONGWORTH (1796-1868) and lived in what is now southern Forsyth County. The best info I have is that George was from VA and perhaps Nancy was, too. Has anyone researched the RICHARDS surname in NC (or possibly VA?) Would love to chat and share.
By the way, anyone with any stray LONGWORTHs please let me know (direc

Although the message Brenda posted is arguably "history", it does not
specifically relate to North Carolina genealogy, and it is potentially
controversial. It does NOT belong on NCROOTS-L, nor does any follow-up

If anyone is tempted in the future to post anything of this sort here,

I have added pages for both new and updated web sites
on my site. Anyone with a new site (last 2 or 3
months), is welcome to post an announcement of that
site with a link to their site.
Also, if anyone has added a new feature or new
information to their site that might be useful to
other researchers can post a message about that to the
other page for updated sites, with a link to their
site.

Hi Serina..OK, These Gays, 6 of them are in a book "The Batchelor Family" who
are tied in strongly to my family line. On one page it mentions a Josiah
Gordon Creekmore marrying Annie Eliza Gay who was born 2/14/1941. She is the
daughter of Henderson Gay and Eunice Upchurch. They have 7 children who carry
the surname Creekmore of course. This reference looks like either Nash
County, NC or Norfolk Co, VA..its not clear.
Another page has a William Batchelor b 1787, married in 1809 in Franklin

I checked Early NC Marriages to 1800 and did not find the Marriage you requested.
Edgecomb county was not formed until 1732 from Bertie which was formed in 1722.
In Edgecomb Deed Book B, page 420 is this note Treasey Coleman, Wife of Moses Coleman, was
daughter of William Cohoon, Senr. decd. and his wife Sarah decd. William Cohoon was son of
William Cohoon, Snr, decd; John Cohoon conveyed land to said William Cohoon, Senr, by deed of

Looking for information about Rev. John L. WILSON (1820-1894), a Baptist
minister
who served for 16 years in Chatham County, NC. His wife's name was Mary
(1825-1901). They are both buried at Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery in Chatham

John and Mary had at least one child, a daughter named Mary Alice, who
married William Lewis GRIFFIN. Mary Alice and William had these children:
John Plato, Droney, Jeter, and a daughter who died in infancy.
Any information will be appreciated.

Hi,
This is my first time posting to this list. I'm researching three different
lines that lived in North Carolina in the 1700s, the Gross', Frenches, and
Turners. I don't have much on the Frenches or the Turners (most of what I
have I got from LDS)
The first family is the Gross':
Areas: Rockingham, Sullivan (became part of TN), & Guilford
(Another family related is the Gross' of Lincoln & Catawba)
Jacob Gross b. abt 1740 Germany
m. Sabina Dorothy Unknown
Children:
1. John Gross [b. <1770 PA]
