2. Re: [NEWGEN] It's Good to Be a Computerized Pack-Rat [1]
I do the same kind of thing. I have an email folder "genealogy," and periodically I print them all out, archive them on CD and delete them from my harddrive. The paper copies go into my genealogy file boxes by surname. Anyone else have similar strategies? The Hidden Search Capabilities of Familysearch.org By Nathan W. Murphy, AG Have you ever wondered what the three mysterious boxes at the bottom of the search page for the International Genealogical Index do? These often overlooked boxes labeled Batch Number, Serial/Sheet Number, and Film Number, provide excellent additional search capabilities not available through standard avenues. In order to successfully navigate these searches, an overview of their functions is required. This article will focus on the
5. [NEWGEN] National WWII Memorial [1]
This was sent from another list I am on. I typed in Bower and got 64 pages just of that spelling. This is a great site. Gloria Below is an item that was passed along to me & thought others may find it helpful/interesting. It is searchable AND you can add an honoree to the list they are compiling. Apologies to those who receive this more than once. 7. [NEWGEN] HP Printer cords, safety recall [1]
You may want to check your HP printer cord and see if it's on the recall list.... Bunny While researching my HP printer, I ran across this Recall. I think everyone with a HP Printer should see if you printer cord is on the recall list, it sounds like the cord could be dangerous. http://h30027.www3.hp.com/ac_cord_recall/home1/content/index.asp SHARE...SHARE...SHARE...
8. [NEWGEN] Re: Posting... [1]
Another tip about posting......... Make sure to sign the guest book on sites and include your surnames. When I was searching for the Matter/Motter line, I got a response from a 2nd cousin and it took 3 years after my first posting on the internet........but with the wait, I was able to put together a Motter Gathering and met almost 100 Motter kin. So post and post often. And remember to search other surnames that tie into that line. Gloria Motter HCGS http://www.hardincogenealogycenter.homestead.com/index.h

Yes, and those entries in guest books show up in search engines. I have posting almost everywhere I can hoping someone could help me.... It happened...... I received email telling me how he had located her and two small sons who traveled with her.... The older of the two is quite a surprise to me. I knew the tw

13. Re: [NEWGEN] Re: Posting... [1]
Thanks Bunny, I always sign the guest book, no matter what the site is about. I will make it short, something like" searching for the Motter/Matter families". I also read the entry's on all genealogy and personal sites. I have found cousins that way also. 16. Re: [NEWGEN] Posting... [1]
I wish I could say posting on the internet has helped me. Few, if any have responded to my queries. Most of the information I've collected over the years is a direct result of personally going to court houses, libraries, cemeteries, etc., belonging to genealogical societies and writing hundreds of letters. I know many can't travel to places of their ancestors and the internet is great for some, but my family search has had so many "dead ends", there is no way I could have found everything had I no

I know we have talked about this before, but would like help. I havent sent any records to LDS yet, but just did a search and find my Dad entered there several times. Two files seem okay another (IGI) has him born in wrong location. Another file has my Mothers name misspelled. These have to be errors made from others copying my files and not being careful in what they copied. I dont know these folks who submitted my family and the IGI, I cannot find who submitted it. What can I do about this IF ANYTHIN

Where do you post, besides NEWGEN, when you are looking for your ancestors? Try to give a list of all the sites you post to... Give an example of what you post.... One I post to is Rootsweb..... Looking for ancestors of Ludwig Malejki ( Louis Malinky ) who immigrated to America in 1910 from Sanok, Poland. He sailed out of Hamburg, Germany. 25. Re: [NEWGEN] Posting... [1]
Post everywhere there is a chance to be seen! World Connect, Rootsweb, Genfourm, Gencircles, State and county and local sites, Surname lists and bulletin boards, if overseas, think the same way, from villages up to country levels. If religious groups such as Quakers, Pa German, Pa Dutch, post at their site. Some Clans have sites, post there, and so on... Even www.findagrave.com is bringing results as we post information on cemetery files. Post your family graves. Get creative, think outside the norm.
