LOCAL MATTERS
Farmers report that the heavy rains last week spoiled most of their crop, and
those having hay on the fields is entirely spoiled.
Mr. Frank VOGENITZ, of Milwaukee, was in town last Sunday, visiting parents
and friends.
Mr. STEWART, manager of the Ormsby Lime Company at Grafton, was seen on our
streets last Monday.
Mr. John PETERMANN, merchant of Charleston, S.C., is in Cedarburg visiting

The deceased was a native of Ireland - was born April 16, 1784, and

JOHN McCORMICK DIES SUDDENLY

that John J McCormick, one of the best known citizens of our community, had
passed away rather unexpectedly at his home a short distance south of the
Assumption church. Although his health was for several years not the best,

The steam shovel now being used at GREENWOOD gravel pit to load the cars
with the gravel that is being put on the track between Tehama and this
place, is a great improvement over the old manner of loading by hand.

Messrs. GERLACH of Mequon and HAMBURG of Elgin, Ill. were in the city Monday last.
Get up early enough in the morning to see Venus, the morning star. It is
brighter than ever seen to any man now living and nearer the earth than it
will be seen in 340 years.
The snow storm of last Saturday blockaded most of our country roads and
farmers are unable to come into the city before opening them.

Mr. and Mrs. W.P. McNally mourn the loss of their baby daughter, Catherine,
who died Monday evening of cholera infantum. She was about six months old.
The funeral will be held today. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery. This
is quite a severe loss to Mr. and Mrs. McNally. They have the sympathy of a
large number of warm friends in the sorrow that has come to their home.

Mr. and Mrs. William SCHROEDER of Milwaukee were in town last Sunday visiting

Mr. Hugh McELROY, who has been confined to his bed with rheumathism for the
last six weeks, is glad to announce is around again.
Miss Mary GUST, who was dangerously ill, we are happy to state is on the way
of recovery.
