Here is a cut and dried, no pun intended:) ,mini explanation of Bank fishing. The Bank is the Grand Banks - they use to sail out to the Grand Banks and unload dories into the ocean - the men would fish all day and row back to the schooner and unload their catch. When the hold was full they would sail back to port and the ladies would take care of the job of drying the fish. I haven't found anything that shows my ggrandmother's maiden name of WHITNEY. Even her marriage certificate to Gilbert M. PYNN was listed as PYNN for her maiden name. However, in going back over a book of notes which I started in 2001, I came across something I wrote showing a certificate number for a "pensioner" whose name was Susan M.
