I know a Margaret (Cave) Parsons of Change Islands very well. She has provided me with much genealogy data about the Parson's and her CAVE ancestry when I have visited with her. She does not have computer access but you may write to her at Change Islands, A0G 1A0, Canada.

for John Barrett, planter.
[TC Note]
In the Poole, Dorset, area, any reference to a "planter" is invariably a
reference to a Newfoundland resident and in some cases they maintained a
dual residency. In this case John Barret relates to the same person of that
name married to Sarah Vokey and died about 1760 in Bishop's Cove,
Newfoundland.

Hello,
Just an FYI for people interested in this surname: Because of the
research of my great-grandparents who were both "British Home Children," I
have found out that there are at least a half-dozen spellings or variations
on spelling on the surname, CORKILL or CORKHILL. Other spellings include
COCKILL and CORKELL, etc. And, I understand that CORNHILL is another.
Then I found out that their origins are in the Celtic surnames of McCORKILL,
and all spellings of that.
My great-grandmother was bo

Hi,
I don't know if this will confuse or help you. If I were to listen to a
Newfoundlander pronounce Cornhill, he/she would most likely pronounce it
like "karn ill". If, in those days, someone wrote down it would most likely
look like Carnell or Cornell. Newfoundlanders are well known for dropping
the "H" sound and putting it in other places. For instance Lark Harbour
was/is pronounced Lark 'Arbour where I was born. I've also noticed that the
"co" sound as in corn comes out as "karn".
Some examples. T

This was Dr. James T. Oakley - I have his wife as Mary Gill but I'm not
absolutely certain. His daughter was Arianna Elizabeth G. Oakley. There is a
PCC will for a Dr. Edward Oakley in 1818 and for an older Arianna Oakley in
Wimborne Minster, Dorset, 1817. In 1789 Dr. James Oakley in Placentia
accepted the apprentice Charles Habgood of Wimborne Minster.
Dr. John Brown was married to Lucretia Denning in St. John's.

Hi Everyone;
Would anyone know if a small Community by the name of "Brazil" in Newfoundland ever existed?? it has been stated that Brazil could have been located on the West or South Coast, maybe around "Petite, Burgeo-La Poile or Rose Blance" areas.
I would grately appreciate hearing from some member that may have heard of this small Village/town.
Thank you Kindly
